Hello, all you fair weather friends -

I think it safe to say that even those of us who go underground when the weather is not fair can confidently come up now. Haven't we had some really great sunshine - and there's plenty more where that came from.

Now, a couple of things to note about the Diary: We are sorry about 4th November - we can only blame the effect of our domestic affairs (holidays, moving house etc.) on our Committee Meeting date. Said domestic affairs also make it difficult (did I hear someone say "jolly impossible"?) for John and Judy to put out this Newsletter so this time it's in the hands of your humble servant.

At the Committee Meeting on 29 October it was unanimously decided to re-name Huia Beach "Emiel's Beach", unofficially, for use within our Group. You will see it so named on your Diary.

NEW YEAR CAMPING We have again received the go-ahead (thank you, Bryan) for camping in our usual spot up the Tararu Valley just north of Thames. For those of you who have not yet experienced the joy of back to basics camping, drive north out of Thames until you come to a sign on your right indicating Dickson's Motor Camp. Drive up that road until you come to a turning space on the right hand side of the road. It's there! In fact, you have just passed the gate into the property. You're going to love it, and I would just ask you to remember things like rubbish and fire risk.

BAY OF PLENTY ADVENTURES Sarndra would like you all to know about a trip being organised to Mayor Island with an overnight stay on 26th and 27th January 1980 - Auckland Anniversary Weekend. I quote:

"We have a boat willing to take 25 naked bodies to Mayor on 26 Jan., camping overnight under marquee, cooking under stars (we hope - not clouds) and fishing both days where the biggies are, or exploring Mayor for those who would like to hike around a bit. This is deep-sea fishing at its best - in the raw! Things to bring list: Food suitable for bar-b-que and two lunches, one breakfast and in-between munchies. Bait, lines, rods & reels, sinkers etc. for fishermen, warm clothing at night, sleeping bag, toiletries, torch and MONEY - all $6.50 of it which covers boat, camping and landing fees. Exceptional value, this one - first paid first goes."

Ngatahoa Lodge: There is so much to tell you about this one that I have included Sarndra's information as it came to us, Absolutely unbelievable at $3.00 per person for the Easter holiday.

Enquiries for both of these direct to Sarndra, please, at

282 Range Road, R.D. 7, Te Puke.

PHOTOGRAPHERS' MODELS We have received a plea from one of our very early members, Mr John Hemsworth, for people willing to pose for life (that is, nude) studies. The Photographers, Artists and Models Club has photographers throughout New Zealand requiring models. Names of models are not divulged to photographers or artists; people requesting models are vouched for by the P.A.M. Club. No photographs may be published without a "Release" from the model. John is an established and respected member of the Group and anyone interested is welcome to contact him at

P.O. Box 294, Tokoroa.

VISITORS TO NELSON can ease the lonely lot of Kay and Marcia Heslop They are share milking at Rototai Road, Takaka, but cows are a taciturn lot at best so please remember on your holidays - a phone call to No. 59841 Takaka could be rewarded with visits to some lovely beaches to which Kay can direct you.

CHRISTMAS SOCIAL At last - the event you have all been waiting for, to be held in the Ellen Melville Memorial Hail, High Street, at 8 pm on 8 December. It is just opposite the R.S.A. Hall and across from McKenzie's back entrance. Music, games, dancing if you feel like it, and plenty of good company. B.Y.O. and ladies a plate, please. Admission $1.00 each. Don't bother to iron your skin for this activity as we'll have to wear clothes.

DON'T FORGET - 8TH DECEMBER.
HOPE TO SEE YOU THERE

WAIWERA SOCIAL A good time was indeed had by all! The following comments by one participant are representative of opinions heard from many others: "Saturday night at the Sapphire Pool was a great outing. The water temperature was just right for a long soak; it was indoors, so no worries about the rain, and the food was good and plentiful; most people came back for seconds. Quite a change, too, to be able to swim in a hot pool that didn't have so much chlorine that your eyes had to stay shut. One thirsty chap, who shall remain nameless, got his gear on and went out to the bottle store for a refill - and left the door ajar, much to the amazement of passers-by! Eventually, crammed full of cheese cake and what-have-you, the crowd headed back in the chauffeured Mercedes... (Thank you, Gordon Boyle.) Many thanks to all those who organised and assisted... Thanks also to Roger, the chef, who got his gear off and joined in during the evening. P.S. Please put my name down for the next trip."

FRED BEAR STICKERS for your car or bag or umbrella or chilly bin are available, still at the popular price - 50c.

IN OUR NEXT Diary we hope to feature a bus trip to Pakiri North and a mussel barbecue at Cheltenham Beach.

REMEMBER ALSO The National Open Week-End of Nudist Clubs 24-25 November and the 1979-80 National Rally of the N.Z.N.F. to be held at Wellington.

May I leave you with this thought: The only thing nicer than having a friend is being a friend. Best wishes to you all,

Lois
Lois.

P.S. Did anyone have time last summer to take some photographs? What about bringing them along to the Social.

BE SURE TO SEE YOUR NEWSLETTER FOR DETAILS OF A COUPLE
OF INTERESTING TRIPS WITH THE BAY OF PLENTY BRANCH OF
THE GROUP.

MANY OF YOU WILL ALSO WISH TO GO CAMPING AT THAMES

16-10-79

Ngatahoa is situated in the Mamaku State Forest about 13 miles in from the main Tauranga-Hamilton highway - turning off near the summit of the Kaimais. The place is signposted. Very isolated and extremely pleasant. The lodge has bunks for 50 people but accommodation for 100 plus. All cooking facilities, hot water, showers, a lovely running stream, bush for miles. (NB. No pets allowed.) The cost will be $3.00 per person for the four days, from Friday until Monday which is good value. Food is to be sup1ied by individuals and POOLED FOR EVERYONE so the kind of food to bring will be -

3 breakfasts: - cereals, fruit, sausages, eggs etc. (bread).
2 lunches (Sat & Sun) - saveloys, cold slaw, salads, etc.
3 dinners - potatoes, vegs, meat etc. dessert; Barbeque food.
  fruit, biscuits, raisins.

Lunches will be substantial and not just bread & butter - it is astounding what an appetite is like there with the change of air etc. And I am not kidding it is impossible to bring too much food! Other needs (food wise) will be snacks, personal favourites & habits, but it is important that it is understood that food is to be shared for everyone - it is a sharing weekend for all and all meals are taken communally, cooking of meals will be shared, and washing up and cleaning duties also. It is the only way when there are so many people together camping.

Things to bring -

Warm clothing, best of footwear for tramping; own plate, bowl, eating utensils; sleeping bags & pillows; food, toiletries, towels, chilly bins with ice packs for your meat (preferably frozen). BOP branch will be supplying the milk and sundry items like dish liquid, matches etc, charcoal for barbeques and loo paper! Extra stretchers and mattresses (pen paper) etc, etc.

The route in will need care when driving it is not dangerous but needs a vehicle in a good state of health, and a good driver. It is possible for buses to get in so should anyone fancy bringing a party of you that's ok - would probably be a very economical idea actually.

The Mountain Safety Council will be giving demonstrations of bush craft, Mt. safety, firearms safety and display, first aid in the bush etc etc for those who are interested. Also there will be a hike into the sticks to see the huge waterfalls up in the hills. Orienteering courses will be available for those keen and kiddies guides to bush craft, boy scout things etc will be also available. There is a super obstacle course at the lodge which will be a challenge for all and sundry; as mentioned before the stream, clean and safe to swim; or just lounging about. The wildlife is abundant up there for the keen observer.

I am accepting deposits for the weekend now (of $2.50 per person) so once we have a hundred or so that will be it I'm afraid - already bookings are heavy and Sun Clubs have been invited - an opportunity for some type of sharing there. Promises to be a fabulous weekend.
Deposits for Mayor Trip are $2.50 per person too.
Well have finally got all down on paper for you folks, hope to hear from you soon,

Regards,

Sarndra Elliott. Sarndra
