Dear Friends, 18th June, l979.

At this time of the year as the shortest day approaches, we shall look forward as the days grow longer to next summer. Our hopes for next summer and what we do, will largely depend on forward planning which starts at our Annual General Meeting on Sunday, August 5th 1979 However, more about that later.

     OBITUARY - EMIEL ROLAND.

It is with profound regret that we announce the sudden death of Emiel on May 9th 1979.
A very popular person with all those who met him, kind and under-standing, but outspoken when necessary. He had a deep understanding of human nature and always ready to help anyone whenever the call came.
Emiel had been campaigning for free beaches long before the Formation of the Free Beach Group, his knowledge and experience was immense and his willingness to do battle with any Authority made him a true champion. He will be greatly missed.
Our deepest sympathy is extended to his family.

NEWS FROM THE COMMITTEE.

At our last committee meeting the committee were very pleased to read a report on the formation of a Christchurch sub-committee. We certainly wish them well and hope they prosper similar to our other areas.
The Committee then discussed the problems of uninvited visiting to Club Grounds, which a few of our members are alleged to be doing. Although in the Newsletter 16th February, we asked you to get permission from the Clubs concerned this hasn't always been done. As a result the committee considered that a code of ethics to assist you should be drawn up, the following by-law has been created.

In common with all other Nudist Clubs, the Free Beach Group expects its members to conform to this code:-

(I)   Any members wishing to visit a club other than on an "open day" must previously submit to the Secretary of the club concerned an N.Z.N.F. inter-club visiting form (obtainable from the F.B.G. Secretary) and receive confirmation that the visit will be convenient.

(II)  "Open days" are for those contemplating membership of a club who are expected to visit only once.

(III) When visiting clubs all members must -
a)  Contact a Club Official on arrival.
b)  Conform with all club rules.
c)  Pay any visiting charge requested.
(IV)  Members wishing to regularly visit clubs in their own district are expected to apply for membership in the normal way.

The Committee also stated that it wishes to keep by-laws to a minimum and expects the members to behave in a responsible way, and in issuing the by-law it is anticipated that it will only restrict a very small part of the membership, and in fact we are not going away from our first ideas.

NEWS FROM THE DIARY.

The Saunas every Sunday evening are still the best places to be between 5.00 and 9.00 p.m.
The Swimerama season which started on the 19th May, got off to a good start, everyone enjoying themselves. It was good to see lots of new faces and pleasing to hear that they will be making it a regular outing.

NEW ZEALAND NUDIST FEDERATION ½ A.G.M. held at Taupo.

The remit which concerned us, that is our voting rights lost by only two votes. However, the encouragement and friendliness shown by nearly all of the delegates there, makes me think that it would be well worth trying again.

Several of the delegates mentioned that they had had trouble with uninvited F.B.G. members on their grounds, however when we showed them the copy of our new by-law No.3. they were a lot happier. Had this by-law been circulated to the Clubs prior to the A.G.M. I think that maybe the Clubs would have instructed their delegates to have voted differently when voting on the remit.

Also at the A.G.M. Mapua Leisure Park was granted "Sustaining" membership.

It was also decided to have a national nudist day, probably sometime in February, the details have yet to be worked out.

"Dress Optional" Motor Camp - Leisure Park.

Members who receive the Naturist Magazine will already know by now about the opening of N.Z. First "Dress Optional Motor Camp-leisure park at Mapua near Nelson.
I congratulate the directors on their foresight and the work they are doing in opening this camp. The spin off of potential members to the Sun Clubs and the Free Beach Group is enormous and so benefits the Nudist Movement as a whole.

OUR ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING - A REMINDER.

As I mentioned earlier the Annual General Meeting is rapidly approaching. Our financial year closes on the 31st July, and our A.G.M. is on the Sunday 5th August. It will be held in the Kowhai Intermediate School Hall (same, place as last year). Our constitution states that the Executive and Committee are elected each year. Now is your chance for some positive action. We must have a least 50 members over 16 years of age present. For our Country Members who cannot make the A.G.M. but wish to make suggestions or comments we invite you to write. Nomination of a member for a position who will not be present at the A.G.M. will not be accepted unless the Nominee signs a note to the effect that he or she will accept the position if elected.
There were many requests after last year's A.G.M. that we change the day to a Sunday, which we have done, so we expect larger crowds than ever. It is particularly important especially this year that we attend, for new ideas are needed with regard to the cost and difficulties encountered when travelling at weekends.

OTHER BUSINESS.

Des submitted a suggestion that maybe a coach trip to Okoroire Hot Springs one Saturday or Sunday during the winter might be a good idea. Please let me know if you are interested.

Would all Area Secretaries and Organisers who have any bills to be paid or receipts to be reimbursed for, we must have these please by the 16th July.

Please don't forget to notify me of any change of address or telephone number.

Contributions and suggestions for the Newsletter are always welcome, and at this time of the year I am sure humorous contributions would be most welcome, as there is nothing more tedious to read than a factual newsletter.

I hope to see you all at the Swimerama and the Annual General Meeting.

Yours sincerely,

A FINAL THOUGHT.

Life is real; Life is earnest;

And the grave is not its goal.
