THE NZNF SUPPLEMENT JULY 1991

YOUR NATIONAL EXECUTIVE.

In the last edition I talked about what the function was of the National Executive; in this and the next edition we will look at the members themselves. This edition Les Olsen, the National President and Kevin Sampson, the National P.R.O.

LES OLSEN, NATIONAL PRESIDENT. Les is serving his first term as President but is well known to members throughout the movement, he should be, both Les and his wife Laurel have been members for approximately 33 years. Their three children, who grew up in the movement and I understand have stayed and the grandchildren are the newest members to become involved. Les has always been interested in club administration and has served on the executive of both his own club and the National body - so he is well conversed with the day to day running at both club and national level. He takes part in sports activities and is also a keen photographer; many of his photographs have appeared in the Naturist magazine. He would like to see a better understanding in clubs by members as to where the movement is going.

A quiet spoken gentleman who, with his knowledge over the years, is worthy of listening to and taking advice from. The movement is indeed lucky to have such a member.

KEVIN SAMPSON, NATIONAL P.R.O. Kevin has held this position for the past three years after holding the position of Treasurer for four years. P.R.O.-ship is not new to Kevin as he held that position in his club, Wellington Sun Club; of which he has been a member for approximately 24 years. In standing for the position of the National P.R.O., he saw a need that he felt he could fulfil which he has done with the background of running his own business and belonging to the local Business Association. He was responsible for the promotional package for members which has work very quietly and successfully as I have found in my position as P.R.O., for my club. One does not see Kevin, his wife Joan and their two children at the club very often due to business commitments but I know that the movement is never very far from his mind. His ambition for the movement is to see the members speak more openly in public and give a better understanding of a so called 'secret society'. He is fully committed to the movement and works in a way I would describe as being quiet for a time and them coming forward with ideas after great thought that are workable in promoting nudism. I have always found Kevin helpful and understanding in any matter that I have consulted with him and to any new P.R.O.'s that have been elected this year do not hesitate to consult with him; he has the background, knowledge and expertise that we all can use to the fullest.

Both Les and Kevin are approachable people, despite their titles, their heart is with YOU as members.

SURVEYS OF MEMBERS AND PAST-MEMBERS

In the next few months the NZNF will be asking a sample of club members and ex-members to complete questionnaires about their membership of a club in New Zealand. The separate questionnaires are the result of the work to date by the working party set up at the NZNF's last annual meeting to develop a comprehensive marketing plan for nudism in New Zealand. The working party has been able to draw on expert assistance from the Hillary Commission for Recreation and Sport and Victoria University. The questionnaires will enable the working group, and hence your club, to get a better understanding of why people join naturist clubs, what they enjoy the most about their club, what they don't like, etc. It will also enable the Federation to get some real feel for how big a problem skin cancer is, if any, among members. Your help by completing a questionnaire if asked would be of great benefit to nudism in New Zealand. It will, for example, take a lot of the current guesswork out of designing promotion campaigns and advertising. The questionnaires will b distributed by your club. You are assured that your reply will be confidential and if you do not wish your own club to see your answers you can send your response direct to the NZNF.

The NZNF is also planning to do a public survey of non-members to find out the current attitudes in the community to social nudity generally, what people know and think about nudist clubs and nudists, what are the barriers to people joining a club, etc. Since this is a large project the timing is a little more uncertain.

A.G.M.'s AND COMMITTEE RESPONSIBILITIES

Most of our clubs hold their Annual General Meetings about this time of the year. To many the event is just another date on the club calendar but t others perhaps the most important event of the year. It is necessary to keep the event in perspective and recognise that the AGM is the legal obligation of the outgoing committee to report to the members on the past year of activity and present the audited financial report. Be aware, that it is also an obligation to forward a signed copy of the financial statement to the Registrar of Incorporated Societies. The AGM provides members with the opportunity to make an input into the club affairs, particularly in respect to forward planning and development.

Should prior notice not be given to the members of the club as required, then the meeting that is held could be deemed not to be 'legal'; and all elections and resolutions so adopted may not be binding on the membership and could be formally disputed to the Registrar of Incorporated Societies. However be cautious in pursuing such a course of action.

It is important to understand that once formal notice has been correctly given in accordance with the rules, those elected at the AGM become the formal representatives of the club and are charged with the responsibility to do all things necessary to maintain the status of the club for the tenure of their stewardship. They are obligated to act entirely in conformity with their Constitution and Rules and also the rules of the Incorporated Society.

Newly elected members of a committee should ensure that they understand their duties and responsibilities and take the opportunity to review past committee decisions and AGM decisions which make up in part the policy of the club. One often hears a committee person say "Oh that is club policy". Club policy very often is a figment of one's imagination - the intangible, the improbable. For something to be 'policy', it should be clearly stated in Bylaws or management guidelines. All members should be aware of what club policy is and take the opportunity for input into it when the time arises. The foregoing is by no means a finite listing of committee duties and responsibilities. Specific guidelines for Chairmen, Secretaries and Treasurers can be obtained from me on request if so desired.

To those of you who have joined your club committee this year or are about to, may I wish you every success in you endeavours.

Les Olsen President.

AROUND THE CLUBS

HIBISCUS COAST SUN CLUB have changed their swim nights to last Saturday of each month at Parakai Tourist Complex - next night 27th, July. $5-00 adults, children free. Fee to be paid to club members in the lounge of swimming complex.

ROTOTA SUN CLUB are looking for a caretaker, interested persons should contact the Secretary, P.O. Box 164, Reporoa.

INTERNATIONAL FLAVOUR AT THE 1991/92 RALLY to be held at the grounds of A.O.H.C. 28th December to 3rd January. Fee $80-00 per person including G.S.T. Deposit required $30. If full fee is paid by 30th October, a $10.00 discount is available. Day visitors $11.00 per person per day including evening entertainment. Registration forms now available with secretary of your club. Make up a party and have a fun filled week - then come home and rest up!!

This is achieved by outlining your proposals in the form of a remitted motion. It is necessary for the proposer to have someone else of like mind to second the motion to the meeting. In the planning the Annual meeting, it is a strict obligation that formal notice is given to the members as to the time, date and place and that the maximum time of prior notice is given in conformity of the rules of the club. It is usual that at this time remitted notions are solicited as are the names of those willing to take office or join the committee. Usually the minimum time prior notice is two weeks but this may differ between clubs. Where it may be necessary to alter the Constitution or Rules however, prior notice of up to six weeks may have to be given of the meeting.

BEREAVEMENTS?
