Merry Xmas

An   Extraordinary   General   Meeting   of   the   Free   Beach
Group   will   be   held   at   62B   Gossamer   Drive,   Pakuranga,
Auckland   on   Saturday   2nd   October   1993,   at   2.30 p.m.   or
soon   after   the   above   A.G.M.

All Members are asked to attend.

See below for business.

Bring a plate for afternoon tea after the meeting
and a chair or a cushion to sit on.

On the 21st August we waited and we waited and you did not come. For the meeting to proceed we needed a quorum of 30 members. We were three short. No official business could go ahead. The club cannot function without a new committee.

DO YOU WANT THE CLUB TO CONTINUE. IF SO - THEN YOU MUST ATTEND THE ABOVE MEETING. We have almost half of the membership in Auckland and the rest of the country looks toward us for leadership. Why the apathy? Surely not everyone is unavailable.

At this A G M we will need a new president. secretary, and at least two new committee members.

[Page 2]

This will be a second attempt to have an A G M and all business mentioned in the last notice will be conducted.

If there is no satisfactory election of a committee then we will proceed to the Extraordinary General Meeting.

Notices of motion

1. It is proposed that the Free Beach Group be placed into recess for an indefinite period. Details of an interim committee to be decided at this meeting to act as caretakers for the club until further notice. - J Riggir.

2. It is proposed that the Free Beach Group be wound up in accordance with the rules and the Incorporated Societies Act. Notice will be given to hold a further general meeting after 30 days to confirm the resolution to wind up the club. - J Riggir.

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Attendance at most of the club functions has dropped to almost nil. Perhaps it is time for the club to wind up. This happened before some years ago. Perhaps a new direction is required. See you at the meeting.

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

On the 21st Aug we started the meeting hoping a couple of members would show up to make it all legal.

Matters arising from the minutes of the last A. G. M. The letter of protest to be sent to the NZNF, Police, and North Shore City. We wish to point out that the letter was corrected and was modified, with the permission of the author, to suit each destination. Other items we wished to clarify were also added to save time. The replies were briefly mentioned in the newsletter and agreed that we are an autonomous body with separate views and don't have to do as the NZNF says. Copies of the replies were sent to Wellington at the time. As to the time factor - there was no desperate urgency which warranted the course of action which Wellington took. A delay was an advantage with the North Shore City Council as it gave us a chance to find out the views of the newly elected mayor and council.

The president's report was challenged. Regional funding was criticised, in particular the refusal to pay $30 for a meeting venue in Wellington. This was not refused. Before the committee could discuss it, I personally offered to pay $15 out of my own pocket if necessary, but at the next committee meeting we were told it was not needed so the matter was dropped. This was discussed verbally with Wellington at the time. The reason for the supplementary newsletter was also discussed.

Those present decided there was no point in continuing the meeting as a new A G M would be necessary. The committee were asked to arrange for it.

NUDE BOAT TRIPS
Malcolm takes his 35' boat for occasional day trips to Palm Beach on Waiheke Island on spring and summer weekdays when wind and weather allow. He can take 3 or 4 Free Beach members on these trips, returning the same day. Anyone interested please phone Malcolm on 534 2941.

VISITORS WELCOME
Bob Dyett of 12 Ashwell Drive, Port Waikato (just past the Motor Camp) says that members visiting the area are welcome to drop in. After the whitebait season ends in November is best for sunbathing and swimming nude due to the numbers of whitebaiters before that. Perhaps they might catch some strange fish! There are one or two secluded primitive camp sites near by.

42nd Nudist Clubs National Rally
This Year's Rally is at Lake Downs, Palmerston North Sun Club. Theme for the Rally is the Wild West.

AGM Report

The AGM advertised to be held on 21 August, 1993 was unable to proceed because there were not enough members present to for a quorum. In the hope that another two or three members might arrive later, the meeting proceeded, but without any voting.

The Minutes of the previous AGM were read, and some discussion followed, mainly on the Committee's decisions with respect to the carrying out of unanimous resolutions of the previous AGM. The President then read his Report, which contained some controversial matters, and was also the subject of some discussion. The Treasurer was unable to present his Report due to other interests. However some aspects of the accounts were discussed; it would appear that some events are considered national events, whereas others are considered to be local stand alone activities, It is not clear whether this is a historical or geographical distinction.

A date must now be set for another AGM, in accordance with the Rules.

Wellington members should be prepared for possible changes, and give consideration to the future in light of recent events which have affected some members. It is clear that members are resolved that our activities will not be affected by decisions made in Auckland.

Pre Summer Meeting

A Meeting is to be held during mid September, (place and time yet to be decided), to consider matters of importance to Wellington members, to consider our future in the Group, and to plan our Summer program. Please phone Trevor or Odette for details - (04) 233-9248.

SAUNA

The fourth Friday each month is the regular Sauna night at Wally's Atlantis Sauna, Karori. Adults $6-50 each, children free.

Post Script

No doubt everyone will have been surprised to receive the Supplement to the July - August Newsletter.

Members will be relieved to learn that we have been informed by police that in fact, there has been no paedophile ring operating in the Wellington region.

A notice by the same title, which appeared in the January - February Newsletter, completely disassociated the Free Beach Group and its members from any association with sensational newspaper articles which were published back in October, 1992.

Nothing has happened since then to change this!

It should be remembered, that at all times, we are individuals, each responsible for our own behaviour. As parents, we are responsible for our own children, whether at the beach, at the supermarket, or crossing the road. We may be free agents, but we can be expected to conform to standards set by our contemporaries.

Swim nights

Our regular swim nights at the Cannon's Creek Aquatic Centre continue to be very popular each second Sunday of each month. Enjoy a swim and barbecue, why not come and join us? Only $3 per adult, children free.

Remember

Rangi Woods

Wellington Anniversary Weekend, 1994

The committee has made a booking for special weather for the 1994 Wellington Anniversary weekend, so if you are planning your Summer holidays, remember to include Rangi Woods in your itinerary. Everyone welcome.

Wellington NEWS

September - October, 1993

Let's get it right!

No doubt everyone will have been surprised to receive the Supplement to the July - August Newsletter which contained an article entitled NOTICE TO ALL MEMBERS AND SUN CLUBS. The notice refers to sensational news media reports published back in October, 1992.

In the notice, it was stated:
.......  a ring of paedophiles had been found to have been operating in the Wellington region and has been the subject of a police investigation.

.......  two members of this ring have been shown to have had an association with our Club.

.......  the two people in valved have been arrested and we understand will face charges.

Members will be relieved to learn that we have been informed by police that there was in fact no paedophile ring operating in the Wellington region.

One person, who is no longer a member of the Free Beach Group, has since been arrested on a charge relating to the possession of a video tape made sometime prior to his joining the group. The charge has yet to be substantiated in Court. He had also been a respected member of a Sun Club.

The notice was conceived in Auckland; no attempt was made to check its validity with Wellington members. Wellington members expressed their concern that an inaccurate and potentially harmful article was to be included in the July - August Newsletter.

The Wellington Newsletter Team consulted a number of prominent members both locally and outside the Wellington area. All those who heard the text of the proposed article shared our concern that such an unwarranted item was to be published.

In anticipation that reason would prevail, we modified the layout of the Newsletter, deferred the offending text, and relocated the tear-off coupon for Waiwera Pool so that there was no reference material on the reverse side.

Our request that the article be dropped was declined, but the reply was received too late as the printer had printed the Newsletter in its amended format.

The question remains, what was so important that this matter had to be dragged up from the past, and what was so urgent that it justified the need for an extraordinary Newsletter? Postage alone would have cost something of the order of $140. Yet, earlier this year, Wellington’s request for $30 to pay for the hire of a hall for a Meeting was too much to ask!

A notice by the same title in the January - February Newsletter completely disassociated the Free Beach Group and its membership from any association with any newspaper article.

Nothing has happened since then to change this fact!

As parents, we must remember that at all times, we are each responsible for our own children, whether at the beach, at the supermarket, or crossing the road. As individuals, we are each responsible for our own behaviour. We are free agents, but we can be expected to conform to the standards set by our peers.
