APRIL - MAY 1988

Dear Members,

I think I will pull in my horns with my weather forecasts. Nobody told me there was going to be a forty-year storm! We extend our sympathy to any members who suffered damage. The Wanganui Sun Club reports:

"Nearly everyone by now will have heard of the flash flood that ripped through several farms in the Parapara hills on Saturday February 6, with our club grounds getting more than their share of water. After a sudden torrential downpour and electrical storm on Saturday afternoon, the river started rising. Within half an hour water was waist-deep on what used to be our number 1 miniten court. The trampoline and our newly installed swimming pool were underwater in a matter of minutes. Two caravans had mud and water throughout, and the A-frame decided it did not like the site it was on, and was going to look for a new one down-river, until it was gently persuaded to stay in the grounds and was moored to a tree below the barbecue."

Now for some more cheerful news. The Kaipara weekend camp went off very well, half of it, anyway, and everybody had a marvellous time. It was good to have so many new members there. Unfortunately, the Trig Road sign was missing, so some had a scramble finding the place. Saturday was overcast but warm, with seven cars arriving during the day. Everybody explored the beach and caught up on each other's news, while the net was out and dinner catching itself, all five of them. Not bad! A few mussels also went down well in lemon wine. After tea it was time for a serious party, feijoas pickled in wine arid a singsong around the fire. Some people had to be poured into their sleeping bags. John says they drove back through steady rain on Sunday, blaming it on the rain dance of the night before. A very pleasant weekend.

ARA SUBMISSION ON LONG BAY: The Auckland Regional Authority are preparing a draft management plan for their Long Bay Park, and we have sent in a submission. Because the actual beach we use is under the jurisdiction of the Takapuna City Council, we are also making an approach to have this particular piece of Long Bay exempted from their nudity by-law. Copies of these two letters are available from Jim or Evan on request.

We suggest that members write their own letters to the Takapuna City Council requesting that the by-law be rescinded or altered to allow clothing optional recreation at St.Leonard's Beach and Long Bay North. Send your letter to The City Manager, Takapuna City Council, Private Bag, Takapuna.

SAUNA: The cooler weather is making this an attractive evening out once more. EVERY SUNDAY at Clive Green's Health Centre, 14 Federal Street, City, 5 - 9 p.m. Single $5, double $8, pensioners $4, children free.

Remember the SOCIAL NIGHTS on the second Sunday of every month, BYO and a plate, free admission for ladies. Dates: 10 April and 8 May.

ROTOTA SUN CLUB: The Free Beach Group are invited to this year's Tauranga hot pool weekend. The Fernland Hot Pool in Cambridge Road is booked for Saturday 21 May from 12 - 4 p.m. Club rules and uniform will apply, and your current FBG Membership Card must be produced. This function is for couples and family groups only, and a special invitation is extended to these people who were at Ngatuhoa with Caryl and Bill. (My apologies, Caryl, for spelling your name wrong in my last newsletter.) The cost is $4 adults, $1 children. A barbecue or pot-luck dinner will follow, and a social evening. Beds or camping space may be available with people in Tauranga. Please phone G.G. Macgregor on 075-86693. Contact: Adrianne 883-784.

SWIMARAMA: Once again we have booked the Swimarama Pool in Lagoon Drive, Panmure for our winter swim season. This is a full-size tepid pool, with two saunas, ideal for pool games, swim practice, or just a lazy social evening. It will be held on the third Saturday of every month May to October. THE FIRST NIGHT IS FREE. Dates 21 May and 18 June, 6.30 - 8.30 p.m. Adults $2, children 50 cents. Bring your friends. Contact: John Riggir 565-219 evenings and weekends.

RICKARD'S: The hot pools are now under new management, with a new chef. Our hosts, the Hibiscus Coast Sun Club are arranging for light refreshments to be served, available at $5 per head. The menu is: French onion soup with garlic bread, macaroni cheese, cottage pie, and curry and rice. Do give it a try! All suggestions are welcome, phone Jack Gardener, 836-6210.

Rickard's is the last pool complex on the left as you drive through Parakai. Dates 29 April and 27 May, 6 - 10 p.m. Adults $4.50, children $2.

AGM AND WAIWERA TRIP: Tentative date has been set for 27 August. Further details in your next newsletter at the end of May.

SHOP TALK: We have a number of children's T-shirts to sell cheap at $5 each, all sizes from 2 years upwards.
Some members have asked for Beach flags. These are about 35 x 30 cm, mounted on two bamboo garden stakes (wash the dye off first), or dowelling or tree twigs. For ease of posting, they will be sold without the sticks at $4 each.

NUDIST YOUTH CLUB: This club may be revived if enough people are interested. Members must be aged 13 - 25, and there will be organised outings and get-togethers, with an annual rally after the NZNF one. Please write to Nudist Youth Inc, c/o 3/2 Kelly Street, Mt.Eden, Auckland 4.

NELSON SUN CLUB: Visiting nudists are offered accommodation at these club grounds. Write to Nelson Sun Club, P.O. Box 467, Nelson, or contact Adrianne 883-784.

OYSSEY YACHT CHARTERS: FBG members John and Judy Bradey have their yacht based in Whangarei, and invite members to go nude yachting. Obtain a pamphlet from Jim at the sauna or write to Odyssey Yacht Charters, P.O. Box 1506, Whangarei. Phone 089-32-782.

PHOTOGRAPH COMPETION: Some members are out there snapping away, good luck to them, arid we hope they win all the prizes The Committee will allocate l00 - l50 for prize money, with an expected first prize of 40. The full prize list will be decided when we see how many entries there are. A copy of the rules is printed below, and the Entry Form and Model Release Form are on a separate sheet.

Some of our beach days have been rained out, but I enjoyed my trips to Karamatura, Lake Wainamu and Tawhitokino. One day we gathered a big bag of mushrooms in the paddock at Long Bay.

If the ARA are considering "acknowledging an area for nudists", this is good news indeed, even if it takes a couple of years to eventuate.

"If you want to live your life, you can't just sit around waiting for it to happen. You have to get up each day and go after it."

So long,

Adrianne
