Annual General Meeting

The Annual General meeting of the Free Beach Group Inc was held at Rewa Rewa School on Saturday 25 September 1999.

15 members attended, and 16 members sent proxies, making a quorum of 31. Apologies were received from another 3 members.

Minutes of the previous AGM were read, and adopted.

The President’s Report as published in the September-October newsletter was moved and adopted.

The Treasurers Report as published in the September-October newsletter was presented and after general discussion adopted. The Treasurer moved that subscription remain at $20 per membership unit per year. The motion was adopted.

There was some discussion on the difficulties incurred by delaying the sending out of renewals until after the AGM. Either a special mailing is made or the renewals are sent with the November-December newsletter. November / December is not a convenient time to be paying/receiving subscriptions, and a special mailing is an expense we don't need. It was agreed that renewal notices be sent out with the September-October newsletter, and if there is any change adopted at the Annual General Meeting, the difference will be added or refunded by a further notice in the following newsletter.

The Meeting closed at 2-50pm.

The Group is indebted to the members who attended the AGM, and those who appointed proxies. Without their participation, the Group would not be able to exist. Members are urged to participate in the affairs of the Group.

Remember

If your bum is bare,

please cover the chair.

Subscriptions and
Directory of Members

There has been a good response to the renewal of subscriptions, and we thank those who responded before 15 October as requested.
However, some members appear to have overlooked sending their subscription (it's only $20) and Application to be listed in the Directory of Members.
Check the label on the envelope that contained your newsletter. If it does not have 2000 on it, you have not renewed (when the label was printed) or we have made an error. Either way, we look forward to receiving something from you.
Regretfully, this will be the last newsletter sent to those who do not renew......

Polo Shirts

The Committee has decided to go ahead and stock Polo Shirts. They will be yellow (gold) with a small black Fred Bear emblem on the left breast.
Our Summer Fred Bear Shop Order Form is enclosed with this newsletter.
Place your orders early, as we will not be able to process any orders received during January (we will all be enjoying our summer vacations).
Also, as there may be a small delay before we receive stocks, and we would want to mail out all orders before Christmas so that you can put them in your Xmas stocking by the fireplace.
We are currently have another print of our ever popular booklet "Free Beaches in New Zealand.

Privacy

It is Naturist etiquette to observe the privacy of fellow members. Whereas many members do not mind who knows they are a nudist, others have their reasons to keep this personal information private. So, feel free to tell others that you are a nudist, but be sure to protect the privacy of others.

Canterbury News

At our general meeting last July, we discussed plans for the forthcoming summer season. It was agreed that our programme will be similar to last year's, with the addition of a trip to the Ashley River and one or more evenings at the beach which could be very pleasant in balmy weather conditions when the wind has dropped and the sun sinks slowly in the West!

TALKING POINT: TAYLORS MISTAKE

There are no designated nudist beaches in New Zealand, but a recognised nudist beach" is one "where nudity is not unusual" - note the subtle difference. The nearest we can get to this in the Canterbury region is at Taylor's Mistake which is reasonably accessible from the city and has hitherto been known as a "liberal" beach.
Unfortunately, though, there are several snags to Taylor's. It is a popular bay, attended by many textile families on fine weekends and by numerous school trips on weekdays during term-time. There are baches at Taylor's. Some of the owners last year expressed an aversion to nudity.

Merry Xmas

Sand sculpted in Olympic proportions

Europe's largest sand sculpture is on display at the Holland Sand Sculpture Park 1999 in Almere, the Netherlands. The sand sculpture was built by 90 sand artists from the Netherlands and the United States.

The theme was "a meeting with the Greek gods", and it is 70 metres wide, 100 metres long, and exactly 17 metres, 28cm high. It will get a place in the Guinness Book of Records.

For these reasons, some of our members do not feel at ease there; while others believe that we should hold our ground and keep to our customary practice. There is no other (perv-free) beach which we can regard as our home ground and our PR man, Robin Gray, says that he intends to continue frequenting Taylor's beach as usual during weekdays when he has time off. Those of us who are retired, off work or on holiday may join him at any time on the off-chance, but we will omit Taylors from our calendar of weekend events.

[Seems a pity to forgo a golden opportunity to publicise our mission at a time when clothes-free bathing is becoming more commonly accepted. Editor]

SAND CASTLES

An article by our Kevin Gdanitz, entitled "Castles in the Sun," was featured in the, June 99 edition of the "New Zealand Naturist" accompanied by some excellent photos. This summer, we are looking forward to even bigger and better sand sculptures - rather like this??

Sundogs and Surfdogs Student Naturists (extract from email received)

Hello to you from the U.S.A.!

We would like to announce some exciting news.

All of us at Sundogs and Surfdogs Student Naturists worldwide are looking forward with great anticipation to YOUR local events coming in YOUR summertime, as many of us are in cold northern parts of North America and Europe, and will relish the sunshine that you'll soon see every day there!

We have planned our first-ever SURFDOGS DOWN UNDER convention to coincide with The Sydney Fest, Sydney Fringe Fest, and Bondi Beach Nude Surf Competition. All of these will be held in late January. The first official event of our convention will be the meet at Bondi, and the Twilight Surf itself. During the following week and weekend, we want to organize many fun activities for all of YOU, and for US coming to visit from afar.

We will hold events similar to the the other regional and city groups of Surfdogs International. "Meet and Greet" parties will be held for all new members, and former "Cybersurfdogs" who have not yet attended an event in person. The founder of Surfdogs, Ricci Scheck, will be in person to greet "Down Under" members and friends. This will be his first trip to your area, since the formation of your regional group in January 1998.

We need your help to make this the BEST TIME that it can be ! We want it to be an unforgettable experience for you, as locals, and for those coming from abroad. We plan to make all events FREE-OF-CHARGE and OPEN for all full members and their guests. Many activities will be held in private residences, so they will be closed to the public, but we will open some of our outdoor beach parties and official meetings to the public, as well as the press, to help spread the word about our FUN CLUB!

Our announcement on the events, and other news articles from Surfdogs Int'l appear in the current issue of "Naturally" magazine. This is the only full-color magazine on naturism, that's regularly published. We would like to help spread the word about this magazine, and we are hoping to help them find new readers during the summertime events. If you're not familiar with this magazine, or can't find it in your area, you can check out their information, or order it by mail via their website. They also have a nice on-line catalogue, as they are the largest distributor of naturism materials worldwide. Their website:

<http://www.intematurally.com>

Finally, if you haven't seen YOUR OWN LOCAL "Surfdogs Down Under" lately, then check that out, too. There hasn't been a big update lately, but one will go up on 10 November 1999, including BRAND NEW SECTIONS. Fiona is still in charge of the e-mail and website for "Down Under" (not membership), so if you have a submission to add, let her know at surfdogs@bigfoot.com <mailto:surfdogsbigfoot.com>

Membership questions should go to our new e-mail: surfdogs@theglobe.com

<mailto:surfdogstheglobe.com>

As a member, if you haven't heard from us lately, "no worries", you're still a member. Just let us know of you want to update anything on your member file or contact information.

Here's something about me, Dermot. I am a reporter on naturism, and a staff writer for my local group. I will BE THERE to meet everyone who attends in January, and to write about it for the naturist press. My group, "Friends of Blacks Beach" plans a cooperation between the "sister cities" of Sydney and San Diego concerning naturism education and activism. We hope to hold a public ceremony to announce this, on the beach in Sydney sometime during the convention. We both hold annual nude surfing comps at our home beaches, Bondi and Blacks. If you would like to know more about my local group, you can see my own reports and anything else, including great pics:
<http://members.theglobe.com/blacksbeach/>

Thanks for taking the time to "read us" today:

let's keep in touch. be happy, be free.... DERMOT! (with Cruzio Cates, for Ric & the Surfdogs)
