THE NZNF SUPPLEMENT JANUARY / FEBRUARY 1991
TO CLOTHE OR NOT TO CLOTHE
OPTIONAL CLOTHING
My first reaction to the subject is that if you belong to a Sun Club - optional clothing does not come into it unless the temperature is so cold goose bumps grow on goose bumps or the sun is so strong you need to cover - end of subject. However, on reflection, one must look at all aspects and be 'fare' (or bare)! Many members will tell you of their first visit to a Sun Club - embarressment set in when they were still clothed and everyone else was not!
This subject will come up in the future and already is causing some clubs a certain amount of concern - so how about some good healthy discussion on this?
WOULD the clubs gain more members by becoming optional clothing? If so it would certainly make a few bank balances of clubs look better - is that what the Federation is all about? Would we see more members walking around clothed, how would the true nudists feel? I threw this question onto the table at a social evening at my club and sat back and listened. Two very diverse comments came out loud and clear: l. WE ARE an optional clothing club as there are no rules to say we have to disrobe. 2. WHY join a nudist club if you are not prepared to disrobe. We are nudists nothing else.
THEN where is the happy medium?
MANY MEN are disturbed by the number of ladies who wear nothing else but panties knickers or frillies - THEY FEEL IT IS PROVOCATIVE - their solution is that if ladies feel the need or necessity to cover the lower part of their torso then why not shorts?
WHAT ABOUT THE TEENAGERS? Puberty is a very personal thing - but so is the ageing process. Why should teenagers cover up in their growing stages of life and are still prepared to be around their elders who do disrobe and are going through their ageing stages. I can almost hear the comments from parents already - we have them with us and we know what they are doing - while we are at the club we are not worrying about them walking the streets of the local town.
Fair comment but what would those parents do (especially ladies), if they came across a group of teenagers on club grounds, with no one else around, fully clothed and they (the parents)were the only ones unclothed. As a hardened nudist I can personally say I was the embarresed one.
IF A MEMBER who has paid his or her fees and travelled a good distance to the club, stays clothed, apart from the reasons given before. then what are their MOTIVES I ask?
KEVIN SAMPSON OUR NATIONAL P.R.O., in his article NUDIST OR OPTIONAL CLOTHING which all Club secretaries now have a copy says:- 'It is in going nude among other people that we gain the benefits of our lifestyle.' Two sentances from his conclusion are:- 'If parents are not strong advocates of nudism within the club and the family by way of example and openess then they can not expect their children to follow' and, 'If we don't have this strong understanding and practice of nudity then it will be impossible for us to withstand the contrary pressures from the rest of society, especially those on our youngsters. We should be proud to be nudists.' IS THIS A CAN OF WORMS? Your comments would be very much appreciated.

MID-YEAR SEMINAR - as the attendance by members has dropped in the past few years it was decided not to hold this event.
FUTURE DEVELOPMENT OF THE NUDIST MOVEMENT
AT THE NATIONAL A.G.M. Kevin Sampson, our National P.R.O., spoke about his concern of the above. A motion was carried that the NZNF..establish a working party to formulate a marketing plan. Les Olsen, Kay Burrows, Kevin Sampson and Rhonda Tong hope to have a meeting with a member of the Ministry of Sport and Recreation in March for initial discussions.
PUBLICATION OF SUSPENDED MEMBERS
The Waikato Sun Club raised the problem on persona non-grata and requested that the names of people who have been suspended be published and distributed to all clubs. The problems of possible legal action resulting from such a list being circulated was discussed, and as a result it was passed that a recommendation should go to member clubs that they circulate other clubs with names only of those persons whose membership has been suspended for reasons other than non-compatibility or non-financial - further information would then be available to clubs on request.
FOOD FOR THOUGHT FROM NATIONAL PRESIDENT LES 'A blacklist shows a lack of managememnt control and a refusal to accept responsibility for the management of the members of ones clubs'
ENTERTAINMENT THE HIGHLIGHT AT PINEGLADES
'Hearsay' tells me that the Canterbury Rally was entertainment and more entertainment - the scale was grand and credit must go to the organisers who achieved such a high standard. The expertise was in evidence by the •inovative way the equipment was used to full advantage. Well done Canterbury!!.
1991/92 rally at AOHC promises to be MAGICAL. More details later.
"IN FOR THE SWIM"
YOUR NATIONAL PRESIDENT.
Les Olsen - AOHC - your new National President, tells me he attributes his spell in hospital after the Rally partly to him taking part in the swimming sports at Pineglades. What a way to start a Presidency. For those members who are not aware, Les arrived back in Auckland and found himself in hospital with the dreaded 'heart attach! Les says it was a warning sign - we have only just got you - we ain't about to loose you!!
On behalf of the NZNF members - Take care Les - we need someone to look up to - from one shorty to another!.

ORCHARD SUN CLUB promote 'Kiwi Inginuity' - They now have a solar heated swimming pool. Black polythene pipe has been coiled around and around the social hall roof and connected to the pool filter giving a, if somewhat primitive, very workable heating system. Are plans available for other clubs?
PALMERSON NORTH SUN CLUB have now allocated their old clubhouse, namely the 'Corral' to the youth - from birth to twenty years of age - maybe other clubs should look at this idea.
HAWKE BAY SUN CLUB are now in top gear in order to have the l992/93 Rally on their grounds (the first for HBSC) Bulldozers are rampant with explosives to the fore. Rally team are full of enthusiasm providing they can pull themselves out of the craters from the explosives.
TINDO TIDINGS, Adelaide speaks of Carols by candlelight at their club as part of their club's christmas celebrations. Maybe an idea that our clubs could look at for the future.
THIS being my first edition and following Roy's well experienced footsteps, I am like a child learning to walk; and like a child I need guidance and assistance. Members feedback is necessary, without it my position becomes non-existant. YOUR INPUT IS NEEDED. Ed.
