The NZNF bi-monthly supplement

"MATURE, ESTABLISHED...
 YET STILL MYSTERIOUS"

I expect there are a lot of things that could fit the above description but this particular quote aptly describes the current nudist club situation as seen by members and non members alike.

The movement has certainly reached maturity, with the Auckland Sun Club celebrating their 50th Birthday this year.

Members know the benefits of belonging to a club but not non members.

Non members know that clubs have existed for many years but still have no real conception of what goes on in these clubs.

Is that a fair statement? If it is what are we going to do about rectifying the situation? And please don't say "nothing!"

That's a bit like the hitchhiker who says with his thumb: "you furnish the petrol, car, attend to repairs and upkeep, supply the insurance ... and I'll ride with you. But if you have an accident, I'll sue you for damages!" It sounds pretty one-sided, but one wonders how many hitchhikers there are in many organisations and clubs.

Many members seem to say, "you go to the meetings, serve on the committee or offer yourself for an N.Z.N.F. position, do the paperwork, study the issues, take care of the things that need doing, and I'll go along for the ride!

If things don't suit my fancy, I'll complain, criticise, and probably get out and hitchhike to another group."

Hitchhiker or driver... which are you?

See you at the Rally!

Midyear seminars are a fairly new idea for the N.Z.N.F. with the first two being held last year. One in the North Island and the other in the South Island. Some of the feedback from these seminars has been quite interesting, both the good and the not so good feelings coming through.

It is because of this feedback that we need your attendance at this year's seminar to be held over labour weekend in New Plymouth.

If the image of the Federation and Clubs is to be improved we need your help and ideas.

As a result of feedback from this years South Island seminar several ideas and/or topics need discussing. The first being Club segregation and the second is our attitude to nudism especially with respect to friends, relations and work colleagues.

Ten years ago society appeared not mature enough to handle nudism, but they accept it easier now.

The workshop run by Roy Cox at the Christchurch seminar will be repeated in New Plymouth. This workshop will provide a forum for members to discuss some of these topics and help them to make plans for change.

For it is no use talking about change, we have to actually do something as well.

Thoughts

"The reason that worry kills more people than work does is that more people worry than work."

"A good friend is one who knows all about you but likes you just the same."

The cost of the seminar is $20 per night per head staying at the Ratanui Motel. Please send a deposit when you book and indicate whether you wish to share. Several rooms can accommodate 2 couples. Send deposit to Sue Hurley, P.O. Box 305, Papakura or ring evenings (09) 298 8349. Taranaki Club will be your hosts.

I look forward to seeing you at Labour weekend.

Dear Roy,

First of all, may we (my partner and I) say what a great idea the bi-monthly supplement is! It is to be hoped that it will flourish and be a source of inspiration.

In response to the item 'what's wrong with nudist clubs?' As new members last year we were somewhat dismayed at the aloofness of many members. We were spoken to five times by different committee members, each asking us if we had paid our subs, had we stayed the whole of the previous night in which case we owed 'X' dollars, stayed in a companion's van, in which case we owed 'X' dollars.

We joined the movement for many reasons, to enjoy the feel of rain and sun on our bodies, to gain an all over tan, for the psychological feeling of freedom, to enjoy skinny dipping without the risk of being arrested and perhaps, meet others who are interested in nudism and health for the sheer pleasure of it.

After the first season we are not quite sure we have done the right thing, but are prepared to give it another try.

We propose to pursue our own objectives this season by enjoying the fabulous grounds, enjoy a swim and lazy walks, to be totally anti-textile of course, unlike some 'established' members who walk about dressed, or worse, wear underwear.

Please accept the above comments as constructive.

Yours etc,

'Dollar Crazy'

Editors note: Is this how you treat your new members? What is your club's new member induction program? If you don't know, ask your club President.

AROUND THE CLUBS

Wellington Club members can now pay subscriptions by the 'drip feed' - bank credit method. Two 'camp-in' weekends are planned to get all the work done for the Rally.

South Auckland Sun shed light on the 'In the Pink Nite'. It's a social where the theme is pink. Wear pink, look pink, think pink.

Nelson club has just organised a full weekend spring clean-up and have a competition running at present. They too are looking for a sign to welcome members, new members and visitors to the grounds. 20 words or less. What kind of welcome sign would you like to see? Suggestions to PO Box 467, Nelson. Their successful 'Russian Night' which occurred during a continuous down-pour ended with two comrades who left first being forced to signal for help after their horseless carriage sunk to its axles. They were rescued by vodka sodden Bolsheviks.

Ro-To-Ta are considering proposing a remit to the NZNF suggesting that passport photos be attached to all members passports to facilitate easier recognition of bonafide members.

Don't rubbish Taihape weather again. Wanganui have recently organised a successful trip to this North Island town where members were able to "sit outside naked sunning yourself in the warm sun during winter in Taihape".

"What better way to write a mid-winter sun club newsletter" writes Philippa Hornell newsletter editor of Orchard's "Windfalls". "It's snowing outside again, my two year old has thrown my specs across the room and the lens has fallen out, the puppy is attacking the cat and the two year old is riding the dog bare-back around the room." Philippa continues by sharing some words heard at a non sun club AGM. From the floor. "I nominate Mr Smith". "I have too many other commitments" says Mr Smith. "I nominate Mrs Brown". "I'm over committed already" says Mrs Brown. "I nominate Mr Hard Case". "I am about to be committed" says Mr Hard Case.

Congratulations to past President Ron Rencher from Auckland Sun who has seen the error of his ways and finally given up the fag addiction.

South Canterbury are planning a children's day in mid-October. What a great idea. This club also serves wine on tap at their working bees. Workers only. Before or after work?

Canterbury boast a good financial position with No. 1, No. 2 & No. 3 accounts. The Brass Monkey Ball was a great success and the club is now planning a Hair party for September. I assume we use our imagination, mousse, colour and glitter sprays and go to it? They also have planned for October a YMCA Bonanza Night. Includes access to trampoline, badminton, volleyball, squash, table tennis, darts, outdoor bowls and a swimming pool. All for $4, or $10 per family. Another very good idea.
