AGM We forgot to tell you who won the photo and drawing competitions. Because there were only a five entries the committee decided to award only first prize in each category. Adrienne Jury won the drawing competition and Roly Brett won the photo competition. They donated their prizes back to the club to be added to next years prize.

At the AGM, Martin Barriball displayed a selection of his pictures to show what could be done, He also offered to take photography classes and so far only two people have applied. Perhaps all the rest of us are experts and so we should expect to see some great shots next year. Your subject does not have to be nude bodies, any subject that interests you and is relevant to the club scene is eligible. To find out about photography classes ring Martin on 817-4990.

NEXT DEADLINE FOR THE NEWSLETTER IS NOVEMBER 22nd. This is to enable us to get the newsletter out well before the Christmas rush.

South Island holiday trip. Lady offered holiday. My wife and I have booked for a complete round trip of the South Island in a Safari organised by the Motor Van Club leaving beginning February till end May. As there will be a lot of travelling we are taking our Campomatic. We hope to visit most if not all the Sun Clubs on the way. The costs would be, share food costs and any extra camp fees etc involved which would be minimal, knowing the Motor Van Club. Would prefer a non-smoker and somebody who can drive would be a help. There are times when my wife needs guidance to the toilets and showers otherwise she is quite capable of looking after herself. For further Information please phone (09) 818-7519, Gladys and Ken.

STOP PRESS:

Wellington Meeting

On September 13, a number of members of the Wellington group, met at Rick and Meryl's home to review our Summer Program, and to consider a request from the AGM at Auckland that we take over the job of printing, collating and distributing the FBG Newsletter. After a brief discussion we unanimously agreed to accept the task for the next twelve months.

The Headquarters Committee will write the main page(s), local areas will write their usual newsletter/program page(s). These will be mailed to Auckland, as usual to allow the Auckland Committee to sight the copy and send it on to the production team in Wellington.

It is interesting to note that since our recent 'restructuring' in Wellington, we are well organised to cope with unexpected events. Doug Ball

New Plymouth Newsletter - November - December 1991

TAPUAE BEACH BARBECUE, SUNDAY 3 NOVEMBER

For our first outing of the summer we will have a barbecue tea on Tapuae beach. Come to the northern end where the cliff meets the beach. Arrive anytime after 2pm and be prepared to stay until about 6pm. Bring all your family and friends and make this a memorable day. If any new members are not sure of the way, give Peggy and Doug a ring on Sunday morning (33-393 New Plymouth).

TAPUAE BEACH, SUNDAY 10 NOVEMBER

See you all on the beach again anytime during the afternoon.

TAPUAE BEACH PLUS NUDE TRAMPING IN POUAKAI RANGES

Since everyone is not keen on tramping we will have an ordinary Tapuae day, but those who are keen can join Peggy and Doug on an easy day-trip to the top of the Pouakai Ranges. We will sunbathe in the snowgrass and admire the views of Mt Egmont and the surrounding plains. For trip details give Doug a call on 33-393.

WEST BEACH, SUNDAY 24 NOVEMBER

This is the first of our once-a-month visits to venues other than Tapuae beach.

From New Plymouth head west along Breakwater Road towards the Power Station. At the sign Lookouts', turn left into Ngamotu Road, then right into Centennial Drive. Continue 2km to just past Rangitake Drive and park by the sign "Paritutu Centennial Park. Descend to the beach, cross a small stream to the west, and walk along 1 km of sandy beach until you hit rocks. That's where you'll find us.

High tide is at 12 noon, so don't come before about 2 pm, because the beach is not easily accessible at high tide.

TAPUAE BEACH, SUNDAY 1 DECEMBER

Barbeque tea at the usual spot about 5 pm. Come anytime during the afternoon.

TRAMPING - OVERNIGHT TRIP, MT EGMONT NATIONAL PARK, 8-9 DECEMBER

Still to be finalised, but this should be a great weekend, based in the comfort of a hut, we will explore the western slopes of Egmont: the Okahu Gorge, the moss slopes, and Bells Fails. Contact Doug for details (Phone 33-393).

TAPUAE BEACH, SUNDAY 9 DECEMBER

For those not keen on tramping, the usual venue at Tapuae.

STONY RIVER PICNIC - BLUE RATA RESERVE, SUNDAY 15 DECEMBER

This is our "special" event for the month. Peggy and Doug have checked this spot out, and t is perfect for picnicking and sunbathing beside the river. Pack your lunch, sun cream, and insect repellant, and drive to the top of Saunders Road (off Oxford Road, Okato.) There is room to park on the right side of the road. We will meet there at 11 am, and walk a short distance through the bush to the river. If you are later, it shouldn't be too difficult to follow our footprints and find where we are.

TAPUAE BEACH, SUNDAY 22 DECEMBER

See you all at our regular spot.

TAPUAE BEACH, SUNDAY 29 DECEMBER

Some of us will be away at the NZNF Rally, but the rest will be enjoying the sea air at the usual place.

Peggy and Doug Ball.

WELLINGTON NEWSLETTER

Nov - Dec 1991

INTRODUCTION TO THE WOMANS' PERSPECTIVE

This newsletter, as mentioned previously, is designed to keep you informed of an update of a "Women's Perspective in the Free Beach Group Movement."

At the beginning of August four women got together to give personal view on how they had heard about and come to join the Free Beach Group. The meeting took up the best part of the afternoon and was quite an in depth discussion. Topics discussed included the role they thought women in society today could play in the group, where and how women could be invited to participate more actively in the group. Possible ways to cope with thing that make them uncomfortable in what is commonly referred to as a male dominated group.

The afternoon as a whole I think was a very rewarding and interesting time for those there. We hope you will find this and the follow- up newsletter will give you a clear account of some of the personal opinions of the particular women involved.

The following is one woman's view.

ONE WOMAN'S PERSPECTIVE

For me, nudity is moral, autonomous and free, let me explain myself. My morals are my rules and guidelines of living. Autonomy I make decisions and take responsibility for my actions, to be free is not to be inhibited by the lack of clothes. I will acknowledge though, that I have had to relearn how to appreciate myself. Within the wider community, are different sets of moral rules which at times may be in conflict with the smaller community of nudists.

Women and men have different sets of morals. Womens' morals are based on their feelings and mens' morals are based on logic. With regard to nudity, men will behave how they want to behave, whereas women will behave according to the feelings of others e.g. a man will take off his clothes because he wants to, a woman will take off her clothes according to how she feels about her body and herself in relation to others. If others are offended by nudity or the "assumed" message of nudity, then women will behave accordingly.

Nudity is asserting our right to have a set of guidelines that differ from the wider community. I don't think women and men should worry that womens' moral outlook is based on feelings and mens', logic. All of us as individuals and as a small community assert our right, in our own ways.

I think we all need to be our own best friend, to be free is part of that friendship with our"self".

from Marilyn O'Hara.

Engagement Notice Chris Arnold
