SEPTEMBER - OCTOBER 1987

Dear Members,

Well, we've had our Annual General Meeting, but only just. We sat there and waited and waited and waited, and you didn't come! Lots of you didn't come! If you don't come, we can't carry on, and there will be no more Free Beach Group.

WAIWERA TRIP: Over sixty members and friends had a great evening up at

the Sapphire Pool, marred only by finding our cars had been interfered with while we were away, and one had been taken.

VEHICLE SECURITY: Several members have had their cars stolen from

various FBG functions recently, and I urge you to invest in some form of additional vehicle security, especially if you do not have the ignition locks and other anti-theft devices built in to the later model cars. Here are some ideas:-

  1. Master switch, fitted into the engine compartment by an auto- electrician, cost $50. It switches off the electrics with a key.
  2. Ignition cut-off switch, hidden inside the car, with wires running to the distributor. Fitted by an auto-electrician, cost $30.
  3. Burglar alarm kit. Get one cheaper from Trade and Exchange, $l.25 on Thursdays from your local dairy or supermarket.
  4. Steering lock, which hooks between one of the pedals and the steering wheel, with a lock and key. Available from garages, $26.
  5. Petrol tap, an on-off tap fitted on your fuel line. Get one from a pipeline specialist, cost $13, and paint it black after it's on.

NGATUHOA: A fabulous weekend deep in the bush of the Kaimai Ranges.

This summer Adele has managed to book it for a little longer, from Wednesday 27 January to Monday 1 February, 1988. So mark it on your calendar and look forward to a really great nude weekend!

SUBSCRIPTIONS: Your Yellow Form for renewing your FBG membership is

enclosed with this newsletter. Please print clearly

get your form back to us promptly, and you will get your Members' Directory before Christmas.

TOWELS AND T-SHIRTS: We are currently out of stock of these items, and

cloth embroidered badges to sew onto our hats, shirts, bags etc. More details in the next newsletter.

DIARY: This year I want to try a full diary of day trips and other

activities, as we used to have a few years ago, when lots of
enthusiastic members would turn up for a day in the sun together.

First, a couple of tramping trips, for those who are keen and energetic. The trip to Rangitoto will be with our clothes on, so don't panic! We have also been offered the use of a private beach on farm at Kaipara South Head, so keep free the weekend of 7-8 November for a day or a weekend camp at this lovely spot.
