NEWSLETTER - NOVEMBER 1985

Dear Members and Friends,

The good news is: The Free Beach Group is 10 years old - are there any doubters who thought we wouldn't last this long?

The bad news is: THIS WILL BE YOUR LAST NEWSLETTER if your sub has not been paid by the time the next one goes out. Sorry about that, but that's life!

FRIDAY, 29 NOVEMBER will be the last night at Ricardo's, Parakai, for this year. There will complimentary wine and cheese, and the usual prices will apply:

ADULTS $2.80, CHILDREN $1.20.

With daylight saving (in most places) giving us lovely long evenings and with petrol (a bit) cheaper, we hope to see as many Free Beachers as possible come along to join our sun-loving friends from the Clubs. Many thanks to our hosts, the North Shore Nudist Club, particularly "Raffles" Jack and his wife, Val. If this will be your first visit to this hot pool complex, the time is 6.00 to 10.00 p.m. and there is a licensed restaurant and takeaway facilities.

On that weekend also - the last in November - the New Zealand Nudist Clubs are having OPEN DAYS. Over the years many of our members have joined nudist clubs, so why not go along and see what they offer? Addresses are on the inside back cover of the Naturist.

15 DECEMBER brings the Sunday evenings at Clive Green's to a close for this year. This will be a social evening with free wine and cheese, coffee and tea. A plate with something on it and/or a bottle with something in it will make a nice contribution to a pleasant evening. Some music would be welcome - guitar, banjo, ukulele, accordion, Jews harp, kazoo (regret premises will not accommodate a euphonium or Sousaphone). Bring your harp to the party - somebody's bound to ask you to play!

Sunday night saunas at Clive Green's will recommence on Sunday,

17 FEBRUARY, 1986.

Saturday, 19 October, was the final night for the very successful Swimarama evenings, run by two of our staunchest members - Pat and Tony Davis. On behalf of all those who have enjoyed Swimarama throughout the year, the President and Committee extend sincere thanks to you both.

The F.B.G. in BAY OF PLENTY have made a donation of $50.00 to their local Surf Lifesaving Club, who patrol the beach at Papamoa. We in Auckland would like to donate $100 to the N.Z. Surf Lifesaving Association and would like to know members' thoughts on this, please - soon.

Now, recent climatic conditions notwithstanding, we have it on excellent authority that SUMMER IS COMING, so here are some things you should know:

HOLIDAY OFFERED: Lady (solo parent welcome) offered cheap caravan holiday 3-6 weeks over Christmas in return for some help to retired couple (wife blind); Bay of Plenty and East Cape contemplated. For more details phone Ken, 818 7519 Auckland.

JOS (D age group) lives on Waiheke Island. She offers sleeping and sunning space to summer guests (one or two at a time), $5.00 each daily. Conditions are primitive but nice all the same. If you want meals these can be obtained from various restaurants or takeaways on your trips to local beaches. Phone 72 8766 (not a toll call from Auckland).

If you're contemplating going as far north as Horeke, WALLY MORGAN has a place for one or two people to lay their heads. There is parking for a caravan with conveniences near. PHONE LOIS 450-037 on this one.

John Riggir had an interesting trip at Labour Weekend, to PAUL'S ORCHARD:

A wet drive down a few miles south of Thames. Saturday we drank coffee and waited for the weather to clear up. We finally put up the tent amongst the peach trees. Alf (Gorringe) arrived and we pushed him through the puddles to camp amongst the pear trees. Imagine a whole orchard to ourselves. The weather cleared and we had a great time.

After some discussion it was apparent that this would be a great spot to use to get away from it all. My personal view of this camp is that we are. very lucky to obtain access. If we treat the area right it could become quite a feature of our yearly calendar. It could attract a wider range of people than Ngatuhoa Lodge because it is close to Auckland, is private and has easy access.

At the moment there are no toilets, the river water is suitable for use - cold and clear; wood is available for a fire; the best camping area is across a ford on the property. It is readily accessible in reasonably dry weather. This will improve as the orchard becomes more established. The river is deep enough to swim in parts. It is well protected by shelter belts from most winds. There are a number of attractions within an easy drive from the orchard. We can arrange to build a permanent toilet, a shelter for barbeques or wet weather, and a fireplace or two.

The area is a working orchard and this fact must be respected. There will therefore be a few rules:

1. No pets allowed;

2. This is not a public camp and camping must be on a person-to-person basis; do not turn up at any time and expect to camp. All visits must be pre-arranged to see if it is convenient. There may be dangerous sprays etc. around, or other reasons for not camping at particular times.

3. Campers must be self-contained: do not expect to use facilities at the house unless there is an emergency.

4. Don't leave rubbish - take it home with you. This applies to ALL rubbish.

5. The contact number will not be printed in the newsletter because of the wide circulation to non-members. The invitation is to the F.B.G. only, at the moment.
