FEBRUARY - MARCH NEWSLETTER

Dear Friends,

I hope you're all enjoying the summer as much as I am. We did a round trip of Northland, visiting Kai-iwi Lakes, Ahipara, Matai Bay, Puheke, Wainui Bay and Whangaruru, all lovely sunbathing beaches, if you can get away from the crowds!

The Kai-iwi Lakes are just like the photos in American nudist magazines, blue water, fine white sand and lots of pine trees, a real aquatic playground. For those of you planning a late summer holiday, here are the details:-

KAI-IWI LAKES: 135 miles from Auckland, 35km north of Dargaville, from State Highway 12, turn west at Maropiu, follow signs about l0kms to Taharoa Domain. Two large camping areas among the pine trees, $4 per site per night, $25 per week. Flush toilets, barbecues, supply your own drinking water (or boil lake water). No dogs. Swimming, sunbathing, boating, rainbow trout fishing. Nearest petrol and supplies at Kaihu, also store at Mamaranui.

Back home, the Free Beach Group has been so successful in promoting the freedom of optional dress on our beaches, that we are hardly-needed any more! We can even look forward to the day when nudity on the beach will be the accepted thing, as it is in other countries, such as Holland.

Our membership is almost all within the Auckland area, and I see this as fairly logical. Big cities are lonely places, and I know our group is catering for a need that may not be felt elsewhere. If the Free Beach Group is booming in Auckland, it is because we have made it that way.

NUDIST CLUBS: Following the National Open Day at the end of November, several FBG members have thought of joining a Sun Club. I list here the addresses of the Auckland clubs, so you can contact them and arrange a visit. Addresses of other N.Z. Clubs may be obtained from the Secretary.

North Shore Sun Club, P.O. Box 33-525, Takapuna.
Auckland Outdoor Health Club, P.O. Box 2702, Auckland.
Auckland Sun Club, P.O. Box 15-1412, New Lynn.
Kowhai Valley Club, P.O. Box 44-006, Pt. Chevalier.
South Auckland Nudist Club, P.O. Box 63-084, Papatoetoe Sth.

BOAT TRIP: FBG member Colin Patchell has offered to take us to Slipper Island on his launch, leaving from Whangamata early on a Sunday morning for the day trip. Cost is $7 each. There is room on the boat for 18 people, and Colin can put us up on the Saturday night. Please contact Paddy to book and arrange a date, phone 559-626.

BEACH DAY, LONG BAY: Sunday 6 February.
The Car Fun Day has had to be postponed, watch out for it later! Meet at the far end of Long bay for our beach day at 10.30 a.m.

BEACH DAY, HUIA: Sunday 13 February or 6 March. (If it is wet.) Drive through Titirangi and Cornwallis, turn left at sign for Huia Point Lookout. Track about 200 yards in on left-hand side. Meet here at 10.30.a.m. High tide at noon.

MOTUIHE BOAT TRIP: Sunday 20 February.

Blue Boats leave from the Ferry Steps at 9.30 a.m. and leave again from Motuihe at 4 p.m. Adults $5 return, children $3. Walk along to the far end of the main beach, under the trees. High tide 1.45 p.m. Bring a jacket to wear home on the boat.

SAUNA: Opening night for 1983, 20 February.

Clive Green Health Centre, 14 Federal Street, 5 - 9 p.m. $3 single, $5 double, children under 15, free. Please note, we will not be meeting at 104 Fanshaw Street this year.

RICARD'S POOL, PARAKAI: Friday 25 February and 25 March. 6.30 - 10 p.m. Adults $2.3O, children 80 cents. Hosts: North Shore Sun Club.

CAMP, PAKIRI NORTH: 26 - 27 February.

Turn off one mile north of Wellsford, follow the signs to Mangawhai Forest Headquarters. Turn right into Mangawhai Forest at sign, drive 1 km through trees to beach. Walk south. We will probably spend Saturday at Lake Tomorata, camping at Te Arai Point overnight (see directions in your Beach List.)

BARBECUE, LADIES BAY: Saturday 12 March.

High tide 6.20 p.m. Meet at the second beach along at 4.30 p.m. Bring your barbecue and fuel (if you have one, we will need to share), food, drink, towel, jacket and music. Free sausages.

NOUMEA TRIP: Our first FBG trip to Noumea and M'Ba leaves Auckland on 29th March, for ten days. The second trip leaves on 31 May, also for ten days. Anyone wishing to join either trip for a fabulous holiday at a very reasonable cost, please ring Julie at 413-9454 for full details.

EASTER CAMP, URETITI 1 - 4 April. Two places to camp, either in the pine trees four miles north of Waipu, down an unmarked side road, or else past the rubbish tip on Uretiti Loop Road. Supply your own water and toilet. Supplies at Waipu or Ruakaka.

WATER VOLLEY BALL: We are organising a team to play water volley ball at our Swimarama nights this year, challenging teams from the Sun Clubs each month. Those interested please ring Ian Sanderson, phone 275-5172.

MEMBERS' DIRECTORIES: Replacement charge 60 cents. This covers printing and postage.

LOST TOWELS: I have three Fred Bear towels left at 104 Fanshaw Street last year. Could their owners please claim them. Phone 836-2979.

COMMITTEE: Tony 679-726, Julie 413-9454, Margaret 659-509. Evan has just moved house, and you won't get a reply from his old number.

Membership at the moment is over 300 units, of which about 250 are listed in the Directory. More people are willing to admit their interest in nudism, and even actively advertise the fact among non-nudists, which follows the general trend in our whole population to be more natural, and more willing to share our naturalness with others.

How lucky we are!

Adrianne
