Dear Friends, 21st April, 1978

Sadly the summer has just about finished, I hope it has left you with a banned healthy body and a happy state of mind. It really has been the summer which we (except Farmers) would like every year.

NEWS FROM THE WEEKENDS.

Motuihe Trip. About 20 intrepid sun seeking members left on the regular boat for a day in which the weather was indifferent, but oh what a rough trip home (we all wished we had gone to the North Shore Open Day instead).

Our trip to Uretiti beach was uneventful and the weather only fair.
The following day to Whites beach, about 28 stout in heart found their way there to a lovely beach with very good weather, but oh, oh, oh that climb out again.

The following Saturday we went to Musick Point, we were very pleased to see some new faces join us, but the weather was not as kind as it could have been. About midday part of our highly successful Round the Bays Fred Bear team joined us. Led by Ray Bell who did the run in 43 mins, in fact all of the team were under 60 mins. They certainly deserved and enjoyed their dip.

The following day, Sunday, we went to Tawhitokino Beach, about 45 of us turning up to what is probably the finest beach in South Auckland. We were treated to very good weather for our first trip to this beach. The fishing section getting larger, 7 rods and 2 hand lines were tried with very limited success (3 small fish) and again we were pleased to be joined by new members, who enjoyed their day out and didn't mind the exercise of tramping over the headland, except for Norrie, who came round from Kawakawa Bay with his eldest boy, in their canoes.

The following weekend Pakiri North, this trip was spoilt by a strong wind; that, along with the fine dry sand - need I say anymore?

Friday saw quite a few of our members up at Riccardos enjoying themselves.

Long Bay 2nd April we were pleased to see John (complete with Frisbees) from the Waikato join us. It is a pity we couldn't have given him more sunshine than we did.

For members in the Directory, you should be receiving with this newsletter an amendment list to use with your Directory, this of course only goes out to the members who appear in it.

Did you see that full page article in the 3rd April N.Z. Woman's Weekly? It is one of the best articles I think that I have read, written by a "by stander" in a non-nudist magazine.

As you will see from the diary the sauna season is upon us. It seems a very popular way of spending an evening during the winter months. I believe that most cities in New Zealand have sauna establishments, so there is a good chance even for members who do not have the doubtful privilege of living in Auckland, to keep together. In our smaller groups perhaps the Local Organisers could get in touch with the local Nudist Clubs and see whether they have an evening arranged at any Sauna, which maybe they could join in; or if enough members prearrange, you could just about take over the local sauna for the evening.

In the Auckland Area we are indeed fortunate to have the choice of Swimerama in the tepid pool at Pammure, the Sauna in Manukau Road. For both of these events we thank Emiel, our liaison with the promoting clubs. Not forgetting the kind invitation from the North Shore Sun Club to their hot pool evenings. Please see Diary for various dates.

Access. At long last the series has started, but I still cannot give you positive news of when it will be on T.V.2. The Series itself is timed for 1.00. p.m. on Sunday afternoons and the title I think, will be "Social Nudity".

News from the Committee.

Re our affiliation with the N.Z.N.F. There is not much I can say at this time except that it is not going according to plan.

Thanks were expressed to Des for his Diaries during the past season, it is no small task trying to keep everyone happy. From now on the Committee takes any blame!!!

The discussions about our policies and actions to take with reference to the Police Offences Act continued.

But more interesting news is that we decided upon a Social — See Diary for details.

Other News. For members who have an interest in the Taupo Hot Springs Complex there will be a 'gathering' of the Hot Springs Purchasing Trust at 3.00. p.m. on Saturday 3rd June at Taupo (Lake View Motel, Lake Terrace). The Motel is also hosting the A.G.M. of the New Zealand Nudist Federation Inc., which is running that weekend.

The Waikato Area as Directory holders will see, have almost doubled their membership since Christmas. Charles and Ken really are to be congratulated.

The Committee would be glad to hear any suggestions for winter activities and hope that we're not all going to individually shiver the winter through, alone. We sincerely hope that each of you has made at least one friend this summer, and that that friendship will continue with you into next summer.

A little reminder. We are often asked by officials from nudist's clubs why don't we screen our members more than we do already. It is not practicable for us to do so to the extent which the Sun Clubs do and our experience has shown that such screening does not always bring the desired result. However I would like to remind you, should anyone experience any unpleasantness between our members please do not stay away from our meetings and say nothing, but write in to us, or your Local Organiser so that some action can be taken.

Please don't forget to notify any change of address or telephone number.

Thank you all for your participation in Group outings to the beach this summer, and to those people who have not been able to get out, but support us anyway — thanks to you too.

Please try and get to the Social, as I don't like dancing on my own.

Yours sincerely,

Ray Woolhouse, Secretary.

P.S. I think I should tell you that at the committee meeting a certain past secretary asked, when seeing the phrase body workshop, "Are we going into the Panel Beater business then?"

What is this life if, full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare.
