INTOUCH

The NZNF bi-monthly supplement December 1990

We all want improvements... but few want change

To call our organisation a 'movement' suggests a unity of purpose and direction. The instruments of this unity are 'The Naturist' magazine, 'In-Touch' seminars and rallies and general meetings. The number of people able to attend seminars etc. is limited to quite a number of people. This fact highlights the importance of the magazine and 'In- Touch'.

Having been present at raffles and seminars in the past three years has placed me at the Cutting edge, where new ideas are put forward, where direction is re-established in terms of trying to expand our own awareness and that of a sometimes hostile textile society. How little of what is decided radiates outward to clubs and members generally.

After many years we still have secrecy and the necessity for fences remain with us. I regard fences as an apology, secrecy is a denial of what is an innocent health pursuit. How can we expand under a cloak of secrecy?

There are many problems facing us but we have made some progress, not least of which is static rather than declining membership and the reason for it.

We have made some progress in changing our image, and the package produced on behalf of the N.Z.N.F by Kevin Sampson, is a big step in the right direction.

The threat, real and imagined posed by the increase in ultra violet light is heaven sent advertising material for the chemists guild. Here is an opportunity to communicate to anyone who will listen, that naturists do not lie in neat rows under the sun,

desperately trying to change the colour of their skin.

The Naturist magazine should be hammering home these messages under a well defined editorial policy guideline.

We should think and choose carefully with the future in mind rather than hastily arrived at short term solutions. We all want improvement but few want change.

It is less than an hour's drive north of New Plymouth, and involves open farmland, native forest, an ancient tunnel and sandy beach below the impressive Whitecliffs. We will tramp three and a half hours through the state forest before lunch, enjoying a relaxing lunch hour, and then one and one half hours back along the beach.

This outing is well worth the trip from Auckland or Wellington. You can stay at a motor camp, motel or at the Taranaki Naturist Club, and enjoy a nude beach or club visit on the Saturday, do the walkway on the Sunday and be away homeward at about 3pm.

Another nudist tramp is planned for 20 January 1991.

Around the Clubs

So much has happened around the clubs since the last In-Touch in May.

Palmerston North have started their new clubhouse with the site being prepared and the foundations laid.

Wellington Club have had successful swim nights at the local pool during the winter. To have an indoor barbecue after a swim and session in the hot pool during the winter is the answer. The socials have been particularly well attended and organised. During Labour weekend they had a Mexican evening and a wine and cheese get-together.

More Nudist Tramping

Write to Doug Ball, 16 Selwyn Street, New Plymouth for details of a nudist tramp along the spectacular Whitecliffs Walkway on Sunday December 2.

This walkway is ideal for nude tramping.

The season is off to a good start.

Hibernation over the winter at the Orchard club? Not likely. Down there they have family weekends at the club throughout the winter especially when the ground is very white early in the mornings. And they know about it when they leave the coal for the fife behind. They must be very optimistic to run socials after strenuous physical work during the day. It therefore comes as no surprise when the socials on the Saturday nights were fizzers due to exhaustion. Your weekends remind me of our families early days in the club. A common goal, plenty of fellowship and fun for the family and no one had time to criticise others or listen to it or complain that the sun wasn't out today.

Their swimming pool fund is based on sponsored blocks, the list looks something like this: brick 1-4 Xmas beer can collection, 5-14 Mavis & Eddie Robertshaw, 15-16 Ian & May Angell, 17-20 Keith, 21 Easter Pool playing charge and so on.

And while we are talking about swimming pools, we hear that Nelson Club had purchased a new swimming pool which is about 38 feet by 15 feet. President Bill saw the advert in the paper and within minutes 8 members had arrived on the doorstep and within a short time had purchased the pool. And after the AGM members had quickly donated more than half the cost of the pool. By October 80% of the cost had been donated. Club members must be keen to get a bigger pool. Well done.

Tindo youth in the Barrossa Valley near Adelaide now have their own clubhouse just like AOHC youth. Adult visits by invitation only. The club also has a waiting list for members who want to own their own shacks (batches) but there are not enough sites. They are proposing to install an automatic chlorination unit for their pool. Now that could save some time.

The Australian Nudist Federation have redrafted their constitution and were to have it approved at the next convention at Sunseekers due to start on December 30. Unfortunately the Convention has been cancelled due to lack of support. Don't let that happen here please. Be enthusiastic about your lifestyle.

Bay of Plenty are considering a name change, are thinking about creating a special place for members dogs on the grounds and are planning a trip to the Gisborne club. One member who remains anonymous donated $100 to help finish off the kitchen.

Rotota has just had the most successful year for some time. The membership has increased, which points directly to three things they say. The friendly outgoing people who make up the membership, the beautiful grounds, bush walks, streams and lakes, set to make membership attractive and the reasonable subs. They have even decided to open up another, camping area owing to demand.

Canterbury Club inform us the grounds are the best ever and looking superb for the coming rally. And we hear the club is into a spot of cricket these days! They have also purchased a computer and printer to do all their accounts, budgets etc. on. And the committee has agreed to use the membership packages and offer members 30% off their subscriptions for introducing new members. Now that is some incentive. And they now allow all their new members to vote on anything except election of officers. Another good move.

IN-TOUCH

Edited by Roy Cox and published by the New Zealand Nudist Federation, 123 Hill Road, Belmont, Lower Hutt New Zealand All correspondence to this address.

Wanganui Club must be well over their flood problems because the carpet has gone down in the clubhouse and furniture is on the way.

AOHC have voted to retain Dame Cath Tizard as patron of the club hoping that with her new appointment as Governor General of New Zealand she will still be able to continue as patron.

And finally we congratulate South Canterbury on taking over their new grounds, Trip School.

Rally Update

An important message for all would be time travellers. Christmas and the rally are less than a month away. The programme has been designed so that there is something for everyone young and old and those in between. It should be a lot of fun, but will require a little involvement on your part. Look at the programme on your registration form and decide how best you can add to the atmosphere. The main events will include the opening night theme - cradle of civilisation, a medieval feast, a 1920's night, and on new years eve the theme will be 2500. So look out your feathers and fish bowls and dream up some "atmospheric ideas".

And don't forget to bring along your favourite home brew which will be judged on the 27th as a pre rally getting to know you event.

Don't forget the young Who'ns will be well catered for by Gail and Peter.

So you want to be on stage huh?

This year's Percy Cousins Trust Concert will be an old time music hall. So here's your big break. Put your thinking caps on now and show those Canterbury Who'ns that all the talent is not resident in Christchurch.

New Editor on the Way

In-Touch was born four years and 23 editions ago. And during that time seminars have been covered, new ideas discussed and exposed, kept readers informed on what other clubs are doing, created opportunities for members to write to the editor and share their views and so on.

Due to changing business commitments I must step down from the position of Editor.

I have thoroughly enjoyed the job and believe In-Touch can provide a valuable service in bringing clubs together, sharing good ideas and communicating decisions from your Federation.

Best wishes to the new Editor, thanks for reading the newsletter and thanks to those who contributed articles and items.
