The distance from Whangarei is about 35 km.
Where:-
From State Highway 1, 30 km south of Whangarei and 6 km north of Waipu, turn east into the Uretiti Beach Recreation Reserve camping ground. If you are 'day tripping' either park near the south end (during 'the season' there may be a restriction on entry) or drive 300 m north to the 'day park.'
What's there:-
Water taps, flush toilets, cold showers, fireplaces. No dogs and "nudity is not acceptable in the campground". DoC fee $7 ($3 for kids). Supplies at Ruakaka, 3 km north. Very popular.
Comments:-
Mar 09, AP - Got there about 4 pm, most people had gone by then and had most of the beach to myself. Great views all round, from Whangarei heads to Mangawhai heads.
Mar 04, DG - Spent a very pleasant day there - large numbers of nudists - tidy campground - improved toilets - pleasant and helpful caretaker. I recommend parking near main gate as the visitor's park is not very secure.
Dec 03, JL - DoC says nudists have a "voluntary policy" of going south from the camp (on the beach).
Jan 02, JL - January holiday naturists are less likely to make up camping groups these days.
