NO GENERATION GAP

Our organisation is growing older and of course, wiser.

But our organisation is not an "old peoples club", even though it is blessed with hundreds of wonderful senior citizens who have helped pioneer it from humble beginnings to something we can all be proud of.

We must keep our organisation "young at heart" as the years slide beneath us, and the only way this can be done is to inject young blood into our clubs and the National Federation on a continuing, never ending basis.

So, the next time you are looking for prospective members, keep your eyes open not only for the senior members of your conmiunity but also the younger members.

Yes our club members are growing older, but we don't want any "generation gap"; so let's get to it.

Equal Rights for Men and Women

Los Angeles (NZPA) - A man who says he was charged more than a woman was charged to take off his clothes has sued the private Topanga Canyon Nudist Club, Elysium, for alleged sex discrimination.

The suit filed yesterday in the superior court by Alejandro Crespi, 56, of Pasedena, alleged men are charged $NZ362 to join the Club, while women can join for $NZ259 and that men pay more for seminars and workshops.

The suit seeks unspecified damages and a court order requiring the club to charge both sexes the same fee.

"This case is about equal rights for men and women - not whether nudity is right or wrong," said attorney Gloria Alired, who is representing Mr Crespi.

"The club charges women less because they have less earning power and are more affected by stigmas attached to nudity," Elysium attorney Stephen Rohde said.

Editors note - Does your club charge men more than women for club fees?

Kahlil Gibran on Clothes

And the weaver said, Speak to us of Clothes

And he answered:

Your clothes conceal much of your beauty, yet they hide not the unbeautiful.

And although you seek in garments the freedom of privacy you may find in them a harness and a chain.

Would that you could meet the sun and the wind with more of your skin and less of your raiment.

For the breath of life is in the sunlight and the hand of life is in the wind.

Some of you say "It is the north wind who has woven the clothes we wear".

And I say, Ay, it was the north wind,

But shame was his loom, and the softening of the sinews was his thread.

And when his work was done he laughed in the forest.

Forget not that modesty is for a shield against the eye of the unclean.

And when the unclean shall be no more, what were modesty but a fetter and a fouling of the mind?

And forget not that the earth delights to feel your bare feet and the winds long play with your hair.

In the southern hemisphere of course it would be the southerly which wove the clothes. This book, which is Gibran's masterpiece was published in 1923. He was a poet, philosopher and artist and was born in Lebanon in 1883. A book worth reading.

Fencing Swimming Pools

At present there is before parliament a bill on this subject. If passed it may mean some of our clubs will have to fence their pools. It is a wise measure in any case.

The two key factors are outlined below. Fencing is not required if;-

The top side wall is not less than 1.2 metres above the surrounding ground level.

The depth of water is not more than 400 mm.

Clubs are advised to make provisions if necessary should the act be passed.

Why meetings should start on time

By getting meetings started on time you're generating a feeling of personal respect, not just efficiency, throughout your club. The feeling that everbody's time is valuable. Getting the meeting underway puncually is a way of showing your respect for those who arrive on time, rather than give the latecomers' egos a boost by having everyone else wait for them.

Key Words from a Successful Club

" Utopia cannot be created out of nothing. This means money, it means thought and planning. It means participation of all members in the decision making process and in carrying out those decisions.

This has been a good year for development. We have spent $13000 on upgrading amenities, paid off loans and remain financially viable into the next financial year in spite of startling power price rises.

Thanks to an energetic chairman and a parsimonious treasurer, long term planning is beginning to have some meaning and will bear fruit for years to come.

Financial control has been completely revamped with the assistance of a computer.

Don't lose touch over the winter. This is your club, you own it, only members make it successful. Over the years many families have grown up in the club and they are richer and healthier for it. "

Dear Roy,

"In-Touch" appears to have shaken up a few areas of complacency! It's an excellent method of getting useful information across to all club members who may not otherwise be aware of happenings across the country.

It is also refreshing to read articles of general interest.

It would be helpful, I'm sure, if members would show support from time to time by writing to you with requests, ideas etc.

Best wishes for the future of In-Touch.

Yours etc,
Terry Offord

Editors note: Thanks Terry. Remember folks, this is your supplement.

AROUND THE CLUBS

If you want to join a club with a good social programme and you live in Auckland - join the Free Beach Group. What variety too.

Hawkes Bay Club have elected to use surnames in their publications etc. Good news. Our publications are for members only after all. They have 3 families who do not wish to have their names used. Wellington Club who adopted the same policy last year have a similar number. Hawkes Bay have also purchased three posters to help them with their new member recruitment and advertising campaign.

Canterbury have set in motion a new line in advertising too; "the idea being to show confidence in ourselves and to present a good image of our club." They have produced free of charge (advertising) 2000 copies of a tabloid paper for distribution. "O.K." says Membership Secretary Pauline Turner-Brown, "now that we have told everyone what a great place this is, CAN WE LIVE UP TO IT? When new members get here will they be disappointed?"

Bay of Plenty club have received many small and large donations to help them with their rebuilding programme after their club house was burnt down by vandals and their mower stolen. Their sister club in USA, Colorado Naturists have sent their condolences and have started a fund raising venture to help. Has your club considered doing anything. After all we are one big family.

Tindo (South Aust) have just organised a special day called "Clean up Tindo Day." A working bee which concentrates on tidying up their premises and sending all the rubbish to the tip. Did you know that Rick and Doreen, Tindo Tidings editors always reserve the back page for their younger members. This months project is: how to make a jigsaw. The monthly newsletter regularly contains more than 12 pages, even in winter.

New newsletter on the block this month is Rose Petals voice of the Rose City Sun Club (Previously Manawatu).

Full credit to those who persevere. Graham from Wanganui has got his flushing loo working. Congratulations Graham. Any club that has long drop loos who would like to upgrade should write to Graham c/o of Wanganui Club, P.O. Box 410 for details.

Orchard have officially applied to host the 1988/89 rally.

Wellington are looking at booking out their grounds to local caravan clubs during the off season to boost their income. Prompted by the Bay of Plenty club house fire, the committee engaged a registered valuer at a very modest $200 to value the club's buildings and facilities. End result $600,000. We had insurance cover for only $180,000. Moral - make sure you are covered. Do it now. If you cannot insure for replacement cost on all buildings, insure those that are essential.
