Rabbit Island (West)

Where:-

From Richmond 14 km south of Nelson on State Highway 6, turn right into State Highway 60 (the Appleby Highway), go 4 km to cross the Appleby Bridge and after another 1 km turn north at the sign to Rabbit Island. Drive on the one-way roads to the most westerly car park behind the beach, then walk 10+ minutes.

What's there:-

No dogs allowed. The extreme west of the island, opposite Mapua, is a 30-40 minute walk. This end of the beach has some wind-sheltered areas amongst the Maram grass but none of the beach has shade from the sun.

Dec 05, DB - Good swimming all along the beach.

Mar 02, LA - I suspect there is a fair bit of nudity in the dunes - there is plenty of room.
