Where:-

From Queen St in Russell, turn right at the sign for Long Beach, go 1 km over the hill and park at the northern (closest) end of Long Beach. Walk back 20m, up above the toilet block, to find a narrow track. At low tide it is possible to walk around the rocks.

What's there:-

This is the first beach in the country to be secured as a 'naturist beach' in perpetuity, by means of a QEII Trust covenant. A notice on the track above the adjacent Long Beach toilets verifies the status. This beach is overlooked by two large mansions which are owned by the dedicated naturist family, Stefania and Antonio Pasquale, who welcome families and visitors (up to 10 people) to stay on their 24ha property, from November 1st to April 14th.

Comments:-

Mar 09, AP - On the walk to Waitata Bay a sign says: WAITATA BAY IS A NATURIST BEACH. Brilliant, at last some recognition. A great little beach with friendly local nudists: no pervs! I recommend it highly to anyone. Fantastic day, not a cloud in the sky.

Mar 04, LN - We tried Waitata Bay near Russell which is supposedly popular but there were no other nudists there (and it wasn't the greatest of beaches).

Mar 00, NJ - There were a few naturists, all seemed pretty relaxed.
