M'Ba Noumea - New Caledonia

This is a story about an island far away. It tells you about the Caledonian Naturist Association and their success at establishing, with government sanction, a resort on the island of M'Ba, which is about 1½ hours from Noumea. The northern half of the island was set aside in October of 1979 by government decree.

Transportation from Noumea is provided on an on going basis by arrangement almost every weekend on a 49ft boat called the "Hoki Mai" which was formerly a New Zealand pilot launch.

The facilities comprise of a communal dormitory which sleeps 7 to 8 adults and nine bungalows.

These buildings have thatched roofs on poles made of local wood, and are lit up by electricity. On the ground floor level you have the table and wooden benches which will eventually be protected from the weather by flexible screening which will roll down along the poles. On the landing of the cabin are four beds which give privacy or 7 beds, dormitory fashion.

There are washing and toilet facilities plus a communal kitchen. The warm crystal clear waters, beautiful white sandy beach plus facilities which include games - volley ball, tennis, French bowling games, deck tennis, mini tennis. Evenings are spent around a wood fire listening to guitars or just star gazing.

Outside in a large clearing are tables and benches where people can barbecue together or prepare other foods. Scuba diving is available (with your own gear or you can rent the equipment) and a barrier reef is located nearby.

The achievement of Mr Christian Plancade, the President of the Caledonia Naturist Association (a member of the INF). is an accomplishment to be admired. He and his followers have succeeded in having the support of the government, the hotel, and the travel agencies in undertaking the development of a Naturist/Nudist island/resort. It's a unique adventure for the Naturist/Nudist traveller. They are putting out welcomes for visitors from anywhere in the world.

I AM A CHRISTIAN NUDIST

"Profundis"

To state as a simple fact that one is both a Christian and a Nudist might seem to be one of many things; either incongruous, absurd, or downright impossible - depending upon one's personal point of view.

But such is the power of words and their influence upon popular thought, both 'Christian' and 'Nudist' are words which are fraught with misconceptions. The word 'Christian' conjures up, in most minds of today, a whole confusing panorama of impressions and sadly, most of the bad impressions have been produced by so-called Christians themselves, over the past two thousand years, who have committed atrocities in the name of one or other of the different doctrines. Namely, the Spanish Inquisition; those who burnt other Christians at the stake; and currently, those who are bombing and shooting each other to death on the Emerald Isle. Even Christians in Australia today present the same confusing picture. There are the wowsers who are teetotalers - but Jesus drank wine. There are those with a hang-up about sex - but Jesus never mentioned the subject. Then we have the vegetarians - but Jesus ate meat. In fact, one could write thousands of words on the confusing taboos of modern churchgoers and I haven't yet found one church which teaches and acts as Jesus did. So I am not a churchgoer but I call myself Christian because I believe in Jesus and all that he taught.

I have been a Nudist for twenty years and a Christian for ten; but I see no conflict between the two. Saint Peter was a Nudist! In the Gospel of John, Chapter 21, we read, "Now when Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he girt his fisher's coat unto him, (for he was naked) and did cast himself into the sea." At the Last Supper, Jesus stripped naked, put a towel around his waist and washed His Disciple's feet, drying them with the towel. We know for a fact that certain woman ministered to the disciples, Mary Magdalene; Joanna, the wife of Chuzal Susanna and many others; and it is reasonable to assume that these woman were at the Last Supper, waiting on Jesus and the disciples although their presence is not mentioned at that time.

We know from the study of the Gospels how Jesus thought and if He had been asked about the morality of clothing, He would no doubt have said something like this, "Thou hypocrites! Clothing is made for Man - not Man for his clothing!" He would certainly have despised the modern churches' obsession with sex. In fact, it is the moralists who have always insisted that we must cover the beautiful bodies that God has given us, which has caused all the hang-ups about certain parts of our bodies, which inflict us today.

Everybody knows that the Bible portrays the first man and woman as Nudists. It tells us in Genesis that naked Man and Woman were made in His own image. The Bible also tells us that when God cloned Eve from Adam, He presented her to him naked! Clothing is portrayed in the Bible as a symbol of evil! God gives us our children in naked perfection, without any hang-ups about clothing or sex. They are taught these horrors, by the 'Clothists' of this world.

The young and naked body is beautiful to behold! No other living creature on God's Earth weaves fibres into cloth, to cover its body and if animals acted as we do about clothing, it would be comical in the extreme. The 'Clothists' of this world are the cause of perversions. Indecent exposure would be impossible if we were all exposed all the time that weather permitted! It is the 'Clothists' with their invention of shame, who have made the image of God shameful! It is they with their evil minds, who have made the very instruments of propagation into object of ridicule! They have made the miracle of sex dirty! They have turned its exciting magic into an object of ribald humour and a money-spinner for the pornographists.

Yes! I am a Christian! But I was a Nudist first. God made me that way on the day I was born - Naked!

THE SUPPORTER SCHEME

Interested in nudism? If you're not already a club member then perhaps you've been to a free beach, or have just enjoyed the freedom of nudism at home with your family or your friends.

So you enjoy the nudist way of life. But maybe there aren't any clubs near where you live, or perhaps you don't want to join one. For you there is the Supporter Scheme.

Currently Supporter membership costs $13.50 per family unit per year. For that, Supporters receive a Supporter Passport, which allows them to visit those Clubs which support the scheme. Each Club's policy on Supporters is specified in the Australia and New Zealand Nudist Club Guide.

Supporters also receive the "New Zealand Naturist" each quarter, flown out from New Zealand to the A.N.F. and then forwarded on to you. With it, we send you each quarter the "Supporters News", giving details of Supporter activities and news. You are also entitled to purchase an I.N.F. passport for travel overseas, and for an extra $1.00 per year you can also take out a subscription to the A.N.F. Bulletin which gives news of the clubs and the nudist scene in Australia and overseas.

Sounds like good value? For membership or enquiries, write to:

A.N.F. Supporter Secretary, P.O. Box 371, BEENLEIGH, Queensland 4207

A Need For A Book On Nudism—With A Worldwide View

by George Montague

As nudists, we are interested in the movement not only in our own countries but around the world. Too, we want to learn more about each other and our interests in the nudist lifestyle. In the United States, books have been written about nudism it seems since its historic introduction from Germany in 1929. Books to introduce the American to the movement. The last historical and sociological look into the nudist lifestyle and conducted in the late sixties, and the research was published in 1970. The book Nudist Society, was considered one of the best books published on the movement. So much has happened within the movement these past twelve years, that the book is now outdated. Not only that, it is now out of print.

In my opinion, the time has come again to tell the public our feelings concerning nudism. That is why I want to write this book. A book that will have a worldwide view with a historical and sociological approach. The idea came to me to write a book on the movement after submitting a university English paper on nudism in 1978. After four years of discouragement, relocating, writers's block, and the lack of spare time, I made the decision that it's now or never. I have a quest. A quest that will not be fulfilled without your help. This book depends upon your willingness to help it into being. I am only the instrument to get your word to print.

Now, I would like to pose ten questions regarding information needed for primary research. I don't expect you to answer all of these questions, but if you are industrious feel free to do so.

  1. Why did you become a nudist?
  2. What where your feelings when you first visited a club or a free beach?
  3. What do you feel are the personal benefits gained from practicing nudism?
  4. Why do you practice nudism? (I would like views from families, single adults, young-adults, and children).
  5. How do you view the female/male body?
  6. What are your views on sexuality?
  7. Does nudism help people overcome body shame?
  8. Are you satisfied with nudist publications and their depiction of nudist lifestyle?
  9. What are your clubs and free beaches like?
  10. What are your favourite activities when you visit your club or free beach?

I was advised that to make the book marketable, I should illustrate with photographs. I want to achieve a photographic balance of the sexes throughout the book. I will be looking for black and white and colour transparencies depicting the lifestyle of the movement - club and free beach activities, families, youth, single adults. Photos must be accompanied by a model release where recognizable people are involved. Please include geographic location where taken. The photographer will be acknowledged.

Remember, the completion of the book will depend on you, because it is about you. Show your support for the movement - express your opinion.

Please address information to: -

P.O. Box 63, Broomall, Pa. 19008-0063, U.S.A.

I'll be waiting to hear from you.

BANGALEE - FAIRDINKUM "OZ"

By Doug. R. Cousins

Bangalee Nudist Holiday Village, is an open resort on similar lines to our own Mapua and Geyersland. The main distinction is that there are no signs at the entrance. Unless you have directions to find it, you are likely to wonder if the roadway you see actually leads to Bangalee. Once along the kilometre of road to the main archway entrance we knew we were right, as the name was above it.

Set in typically Australian woodland of gum trees, it is flat apart from the river embankments, even these do not stop Bangalee from being flooded. The Murray River is large and long, and temperamental as rivers are. The main area of 167 acres has been largely cleared but new trees are growing to provide shelter from the blazing sun. Whilst we only had up to 34° it can go over 49° in a heat wave.

Outside the main area over a river embankment is the airstrip so that the total acreage is roughly 767. There is a small lake, and a large pond that can be used for swimming. But the main swimming is in the river, there is a good sized area sheltered from the current and deep enough for proper swimming. The bottom is pleasantly more sandy than muddy. Camping is permitted on the river bank, but you may have to move fast if a flood comes.

On arrival you drive from the entrance archway to the office and canteen block half a kilometre away. At first the various buildings, including 6 cabins, some of 2 storys, and 65 caravans, seem a long way off but they soon take on a normal appearance, with various shrubs and trees nearby to break the monotony of gum trees.

You will be met by the resident caretaker, Bob, unless he is away working somewhere - and I envy his tan seeing he works nude on the property all day! His wife Lorraine may be around, but she could be driving their Beatle for supplies or taking the children to or from school. This car is bright yellow and proudly announces on its sides that it is from BANGALEE Nudist Holiday Village. One wonders what some people in the nearby town think of that.

Ever heard of yabbies? No? We Kiwis would call them crawlies or fresh water crayfish. The Australian variety is slightly larger than ours, and a lighter colour. Surprisingly, the Kiwi type lives in fast running stony creeks, but the Australian type lives in muddy rivers or lakes. This couple had three traps set to catch them in the lake. The base of each trap was wood or metal, round, about 12 inches across. String netting from this led upwards about 20 inches to a wider wire ring around the top. Further string led up to join together and a final length of string up to the float on the surface of the water. In the bottom of each trip two fish heads were tied down to act as bait. Each 24 hours the traps are raised with up to a dozen yabbies per trap taken away, the small ones being thrown back.

Two very good ablution blocks provide all campers needs, and at times there are caravans that can be hired. For the children there are various attractions, including an old double decker bus. Sports minded people will find a tennis courts and a volleyball court. Ponies and horses are there for riding, but as they run free there could be problems catching them, and once caught they may not be as tame as one would like.

Bangalee's wild life (four footed or winged) is not as extensive as in other clubs with denser bush. Galahs (grey parrot with pink crest on top of the head) are common. About the lake there are several large birds, probably of the heron type. We didn't see any ducks or swans around the lake but we were told both plus pelicans are there in season. From Easter to October there are usually over a hundred kangaroos on the property.

If you want a lazy holiday, try Bangalee. But for Pete's sake take a tip - carry plenty of insect repellant - flies by day and mosquitoes by night.

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR:

Dear Sir,

As a newcomer to the nudist scene, I would like to venture a few words to you on my impressions of your publication. I do this only to let the "veterans" of nudity know how their way of life comes across to a newcomer. After all this is important if we are to spread the nudist way of life. I am 27 years old and married, but as yet I have not convinced my wife to partake in Social Nudity.

The first point I would like to make is the need for a centre-spread such as you portray in your magazine. As I have only got issues No. 95, 97, 98 and 99, my comments are directed at only these. Why are all your centre-spreads of young women, always good looking, but still only a woman? Surely there are men, boys, girls, old and young in the nudist community?

My second point is the obvious imbalance of the sex in your pictorial content. Most clubs insist on couples or family membership to maintain a balance of the sexes. It is a rule I whole heartedly agree with and one I would urge publishers of nudist magazines to adopt.

For a male newcomer to nudism the obvious imbalance towards your pictures is not a problem as I have experienced being with other nudists, but it is quite a different story for my wife, as it would be for other would be female nudists.

I have suggested she might like to read through your magazines to get used to the ideas of social nudity, so I gave the magazines I had. After looking through Issue 98 she could only exclaim "These pictures are mostly of naked women, and what about that playboy style centrefold!" "Looking through the other issues did little to change her attitude. I know many of the articles are by women contributors but it is the pictures that generally form first impressions, and if one is at all sceptical, your magazines would not help overcome this.

As a result my wife is now less inclined to commit herself to social nudity, so I guess I now join the ranks of those outcast of textile and nudist worlds, the arcaded "solo male."

I realise full well that editors of nudist magazines are always crying out for more pictorial contributions from all age groups and both sexes. However, if it means having a balance by printing less pictures, then that is how I would vote. What ever the decision, won't you please change these ridiculous, posed for centre spreads and devote the middle pages to something more "universally" acceptable!

I have several friends who are aware of my views on social nudity, and I must tell you it is extremely difficult to defend nudism when all they can do is point to your magazine and make comments like "Nudists must mostly be middle-aged men who like looking at pictures of naked young girls and women!" They don't even venture to read the articles.

I sincerely hope you don't see these few comments of mine as destructive, but rather as constructive. Perhaps you could hold a poll through your magazine about the format and picture content (imbalance?) I would be interested to know how many people feel the same way (and whether they are male or female!)

Ron Eadie

Dear Sir,

I was very pleased to read the article "Nudist Tourism for N.Z." and the interview with Ed Lange. This has been a subject dear to my heart as I have always been a fan for inter-club visiting and the use of clubs as a network for wonderful holidays by those people fortunate to have seen the advantages and joined a club especially when they have a young family. Having had ourselves a large family on modern standards we can look back over the holidays we so carefully planned to take in many clubs and the great times we had and places seen on those holidays.

What greater and reasonably priced way to go on happy holidays and see so much of this beautiful country of ours. We never had a "flash" vehicle but we have got a lot of memories, a lot of friends and plenty of enthusiasm to see more places more clubs, and make more friends for a long time to come.

This brings up a point. It would be nice if clubs kept an eye open for their attractiveness to visitors outside their club grounds and a mention of these in their bulletins to "News from the Clubs" especially in Spring issues.

A very good example is Northern Sun Seekers. How many nudists that have not visited them realise that good fishing is within walking distance, the lovely beaches both swimming and surfing so close. Boats for deep sea or big game fishing can be hired near by in season and their pleasant walk through native bush to a big Kauri tree without having to dress. A few years ago we were there and did the kids have a time. More fish than we could eat, nature rambles both bush and sea, pools and lots of knowledge gained of N.Z.'s very early history just a few short car trips away for the wet days.

Look at Taranaki, with outside attractions, as well as a very nice club. Very good walks within walking distance of the club, walks up the ranges adjoining and leading to Mount Egmont, or a short car drive away, fishing, parks, flower gardens like the world famous rhododendron garden.

Although I always found it a drag to have to tear myself away from the club grounds and put on clothes, "Yuck", it was good education for the children to use club facilities and fun, but still find time to visit the districts sights.

With sun clubs through out the country what better holidays can one give their children than the freedom of the club and a chance to see our fair land.

Bernie Davy

Dear Sir,

Please accept my sympathy, as it appears that to help you sell your centennial issue you found it necessary to use a 10 x 30cm advertisement. For a cheeky, naughty nice calendar depicting male nudes.

Full frontal nudity does not offend me, but I find it extremely difficult to explain to the average non-nudist that nudism is a "family affair" and that pornography is not practiced openly at nudist gatherings, and also that the N.Z. Naturist is generally suitable for "family reading". Granted there must be a certain amount of "girly" photographs in order to sell the magazine to non-nudists. The "Centennial Issue" is one I would have liked to have used to demonstrate these facts to various people, but am very very disappointed in the advertisement and feel it is a waste of my money to be buying the magazine and a waste of the Gisborne Sun Club's funds to be posting it to me.

The one unnecessary advertisement has made it unsuitable for sale as the magazine for a family. The fact that this advertisement is in the N.Z. Naturist makes it very hard to comprehend that pornography (even soft, as it is), is not a part of nudism in New Zealand. Is it?

Nudist of the "Old School"
Jane Fairbrother

Dear Sir,

It takes all sorts to make a world - they say, but what sort of a man is it that holds the views of your correspondent, Mr Noel Sanford (Naturist No. 101) who complains that there isn't enough pictures of males in your Magazine, and though he claims to be in favour of natural and unposed pictures, he goes on to complain that a male in one picture was facing away and not showing his "Manhood'. It seems he favours male 'flashers', so he can't complain if people draw their own conclusions about him.

W. Harrison

Dear Sir,

Apropos the centre-fold photo in the June Magazine, presumably from Europe, the question naturally arises as to whether snow scene photos are possible in Godzone. I say emphatically YES. This is another type of photo I have for years been wanting to obtain.

To prove it is possible the appended photo should provide some inspiration to possible models. This was taken on Queen's Birthday this year on our way home from the NZNF half-annual meeting. There had been a bad storm the day before, but not a cloud when we drove through. Many patches of snow lay around near the highest point of the Desert Road, and some small ones show in the photo.

There was a light southerly wind at the time but we were in a sheltered spot. The model can vouch for me saying she was not chilly for long enough to obtain some photos. No doubt the slight out of focus appearance of Ruapehu was due to it getting a fright. It wouldn't see many nude women, even less in mid-winter!

New Zealand and Australian Club News

NORTH SHORE NUDIST CLUB

North Shore Nudist continues to show evidence of the consistent enthusiasm of our members, with the completion of a covered deck to the front of the club house which is proving a most valuable asset, and the general upgrading of amenities. Our next project is to put down a bore which will make us independent of tank water and will be a great step forward.

To end a buoyant and happy summer, we decided to celebrate with a spit roast on Easter Sunday, in the club grounds. Our Vice President assured us he had a direct line to Huey, sq we let him arrange the weather — and it could not have been surpassed. So it was with complete confidence that he and the Treasurer-cum right-hand-man rolled up to the gates at 7.15am.

The weather looked terrific, but just WHAT was the combination for the padlock again? These leading members of the club had to start the day by beating the security system in order to get their truckful of equipment on site!

Ninety minutes of hard labour had hot coals shimmering, sheep on spit, all systems go. Time to crack a bottle and moisten those systems - can't waste all the basting on the sheep. And time also for the arrival of the third member of the early team: he thought it was 900am they had agreed on. And as the sun rose higher in the heavens, the sheep turned quietly on the spit, and the atmosphere mellowed.

Further arrivals set to producing mounds of tender roast and baked potatoes, buttering bread, salads materialised just as the meat was declared ready.

The odd bottle popped or fizzed and a great meal put the top on a great, summer.

TARANAKI NATURISTS CLUB

Now that the winter is upon us, there isn't much happening at the Taranaki Club. It certainly gets rather chilling under that mountain at this time of the year, however, it's snow-clad beauty makes a lovely backdrop to our club. By the time this is published summer days will be on our doorstep again, and we can once again enjoy some peaceful, quiet moments at the club.

Our miniten court is finally poured and looks great. We had a good turn-out of men for the working bee two weekends running, and the weather managed to stay kind to us. Our young folk who own skates should also gain some additional fun from the court.

We are in the process of painting our club-house, it is to be done in colours to tone with the surroundings, namely the natural bush. Our thanks must surely go to one of the members who has worked very hard, and scraped the house by hand.

We feel, the children are an important part of the club, after all it is them who are to be the up and coming nudists, so we have organized a special day each month especially for them, in the form of a sports day. We have already had one very successful day, where the children thoroughly enjoyed the activities put on. I might add the parents had equally as much fun.

Remember anyone who is attending this years rally, if you have a few days to spare, we would love you to visit us. We are able to offer excellent grounds and facilities, so hope to see you then.

Happy sunning during the coming summer.

We are intending to have many photographs and display boards and promotional material to help us put our point of view forward.

We hope that we will see many new faces interested in our way of life and maybe we will be able to educate a few. We also hope that some other Nudist Club members will come along and join in as last year we had a number of enquiries about other facilities throughout New Zealand. So do come and see us, stop, and chat and please don't just pass on through.

At the end of November each year, the club participates in the Southern Hemisphere Nudist Open Day and so our gate will be "open" and if you're interested in coming along please write to Box 619 Hamilton. We know that a lot of Waikato folk purchase this magazine through various sources, so now is their opportunity to become practicing nudists and not just onlookers.

During the winter months we have been holding regular sauna evenings which have been well attended and much enjoyed. Our social calendar hasn't been doing too badly either.

The facilities are moving along towards completion and soon enough all will be finished, and it will be time for that great hoollee that we have promised ourselves. There are plenty of facilities for campers to stop over and have a restful holiday or break from your travels. So we will no doubt be seeing plenty of you on your way to and from the Rally this year. Come and join in our bathing sessions which have caused comment from one end of the country to the other!

At the time of writing this we are about to begin our annual tree planting programme so the trees will have a fine foothold by the time summer arrives, just like all good Nudist communities.

There will be a good contingent of Nudists from the Waikato at the Rally in Auckland and they will be looking for familiar faces and renewing old friendships. We intend to liven proceedings up a little, so lookout Auckland.

Well this weather is not warming up and I'm off to make another cuppa. See you when it's warmer.

CORIO VALLEY COUNTRY CLUB

The winter months have been with us making club activity quiet. Social activities in members homes are always popular during the colder months. A 'Bad Taste' evening was held bringing out the worst in everyone. (The worst clothes that is).

Sixteen members are having a week in the snow during July, so to get used to the 'cold' idea a Pre Ski party was organized. Wear your warm clothes as no heating will be supplied. Would you believe that the night was warm to hot inside anyway.

Our sporting programme continues with members supporting N.A.V. sports days and usually very well. The club has entered a team in a new sport played on a synthetic court with a soft ball and racquet. They are learning.

The Advance Planning committee has continued to supply ideas to the main committee and extensive discussions have taken place but nothing tangible achieved. The time has come for action rather than words in the progress of the club.

Our youth always support club activities and show great interest in the future of the nudist movement. The youth group and families have a visit to Sovereign Hill (pioneer settlement) planned for July.

Membership is down a little compared to this time last year, but on the other hand last years was up compared to the year before.

A.O.H.C. News

Rally preparations would be foremost in the Clubs activities at the present moment. Arrangements are well in hand and are being viewed with enthusiasm as we last held this event in 1975. Our works committee have undertaken various improvements around the property which, we feel will be appreciated by all concerned when better weather appears again.

On the social scene we have members visiting a thermal pool complex at Parakai each month by courtesy of the North Shore Nudist Club. A "Las Vegas" night run by the South Auckland Nudist Club to raise funds for their facilities and an inter-club Dine & Dance held in A.S.C.'s new club house which was, from all accounts a great success.

To wind up our summary we wish to mention an occasion held on our grounds back on June 25th and 26th, namely a visit by the "Akarana Caravan Club Inc." Interest came to light in late May, their organiser was invited out to our property to view facilities and a date was later confirmed.

Some 20 wagons arrived on the due date to spend a pleasant weekend. Their evening do, a "Pot Luck" dinner with a roaring fire going was a most enjoyable night. Prior to their departure our President Les spoke on the history, development and activity of our club.

Well that's all for now, cheerio until next time.

ROTORUA SUN CLUB

Hello There - Yes we are still around despite rumours to the contrary.

On the social scene things have been pretty quiet but great things have been happening at the grounds. Working bees have produced great results and the main camping area is greatly improved. Those of you who got slightly damp during your stays last year will notice the difference. Also if all of the plants and shrubs take root the area will be picturesque.

Unfortunately plans to erect the Clubhouse haven't yet eventuated, although we hope to rectify this before too long.

Many thanks once again to Gisborne for their hospitality and another enjoyable cabaret. The hot tub is fantastic (the pool wasn't too bad either). Hopefully we will be able to return the hospitality to some of you over the summer months.

Here's to the sunny days around the corner.

WELLINGTON SUN CLUB

Over the winter months, our grounds are not very attractive, the hillside stores a lot of rain, so even on the odd dry weekend, the grounds are still wet, and look bare; members arriving for work days wear boots and gumboots, you hear chainsaws and weed eaters, you see hedges and brome being trimmed, buildings repaired and repainted, as the grounds, once again, are prepared for the coming summer.

It was good to read the account from the Plumridge family on their New Zealand Xmas, and their plug for our hospitality. Overseas and N.Z. club members call here frequently, and we like to share views and ideas.

Our club participated in a Hobbies and Pastimes display arranged by the Upper Hutt Rotary, in the Civic Hall here, where we put up a display of photos on Sun Club life, viewed by hundreds of families; it gave us some free advertising, and a chance to give outsiders some idea of the lifestyle we all like so much, and love to share with you; Do call in!

LAS VEGAS NIGHT

The South Auckland Nudist Club's Las Vegas night was a great success. The members and friends thoroughly enjoyed themselves and the comments ranged from 'Well done', 'A terrific evening', to 'When is the next Las Vegas'. This was the first time S.A.N.C. have ventured into such a big evening, and I must say it was a huge success. For the price of the ticket it was definitely a rewarding and an entertaining evening.

I am sure that our sister clubs who attended enjoyed themselves. It was their help and support that made the evening most rewarding.

Every time I went to a table I had a job to put my bet on the game concerned. People were just to keen on each table. Their laughter from the winnings made everyone enjoy the game even when they did lose thousands. While I was at the 7's and up table I watched one young man empty his pockets of 'fun money' and place it all on the 7. Now the laugh. He won. Unfortunately he had to leave and was trying to lose, but couldn't.

The selection for the Auction ranged from about $150 down. (per prize). Their was a Frying Pan, Pressure Cooker, Goldfish and Aquarium right down to Pickled Onions and Handbags. We even had a Fresh Pineapple which would have tasted nice after bidding at the Auction.

The chefs must have worked for hours in preparing the supper. This ranged from pizzas, sausage rolls, savories to sandwiches and cakes. For the 200 people who enjoyed the evening were catered for in great enthusiasm. By the time everyone had supper the Games Tables were moved out ready for the Disco.

The Disco was enjoyable but time from the whole evening went to fast and 1.00am arrived. Which was unfortunately the end of a very enjoyable evening.

AN INVITATION

There are a large number of people in N.Z. males, females, mums and dads, sons and daughters, brothers and sisters, or families as a whole who do consider that there is nothing wrong with social nudism, but for one reason or another do riot or cannot join a recognised Sun/Nudist Club. They would, should there be an opportunity support the movement without the necessity of having to join a Club.

The New Zealand Nudist Federation has now introduced into its organisation a "Supporter" member group, and you are very cordially invited to join this group.

For a small annual subscription any family or individual can become a supporter member, thus indicated in a tangible way support for the movement, and in return getting proper and official information on 'what it's all about'.

Like any properly run organisation there will be some rules, and these are set out on the application form. Simply they will be:

(a) Age 18 or over

(b) Not a member of a Club (Free Beach Group excepted - if you join a club at a later date your membership automatically lapses.)

(c) Payment of an annual subscription.

And what will you receive in turn?

Initially you will receive a receipt for your money, together with an official NZNF sticker suitable for car window or bumper; a 'Bare With Us' sticker, a year's subscription to the N.Z. 'NATURIST' and most importantly an INF/NZNF Membership Card endorsed "SUPPORTER", which will open the door to many Sun Clubs throughout the world including some N.Z. ones, and concession rates at these clubs. In due course a supporters Bulletin will be issued containing many interesting items and up-to-date information for the member on what's happening in Nudism, and associated matters of interest.

ALL applications will be treated in the strictest confidence. Well now that you know something of the scheme you may like to join us.

The annual subscription has been set at $10 plus a $2 application fee per unit: i.e. individual or family.

A stamped addressed envelope to P.O. Box 1359, Wellington will get you an application form.

SWIMMING POOLS

Sometime ago a naturist told me of a swimming pool in the city of Utrecht that did not use the old method of dumping gallons of chlorine in the water, but instead made chlorine out of salt via electrolysis.

The person that told me about this was very enthusiastic about it and I contacted the firm who had installed the equipment in this particular pool, he also mailed me quite a bit of information about this pool system. Furthermore he wanted to meet me and show me what was needed besides the machinery that was present.

50 Dutch swimming pools in Holland have salt water now and as far as I know that pool in Utrecht was the only one that had naturist swimming, actually he wanted to meet me during the day at another pool, but then I told him that I was a naturist, so it would have to be an evening.

Upon entering the pool area I noticed the absence of the smell of chlorine, I talked with several people in the pool and those who usually have red eyes of the biting chlorine were very much pleased with this salt in the water, so I had my first taste of salt water in a pool, when I came out of the water I could hardly smell any chlorine on my body. I was amazed. It was the most wonderful swim I have ever had in an inside pool.

Chlorine is made in the water and is used to disinfect the water, so now the salt has the overtone on chlorine, salt replaces the dangerous chemicals, in other words, common salt is dissolved in the pool water.

The firm who installs this equipment claims that one saves 30% on water and heating. Besides the 50 pools in the Netherlands that have this now, this firm has also installed this for the municipalities of Santa Clara, Santa Cruz and San Jose in the U.S.A.

At this moment I am trying to get 2 municipalities interested in studying this system in Gouda and Zevenhuizen, those 2 municipalities are the ones where we also have our naturist swimming sessions.

I don't know what it is like in the U.S.A., New Zealand, England or any other countries, but in Holland some pools are too heavy chlorinated by dumping more chlorine in the water than is necessary giving the swimmers red eyes and unpleasant and uncomfortable feelings, here carelessness is at stake.

Quite often people are used to a certain way of doing things year after year, then something new comes along that improves a lot of things, but the authorities are afraid quite often on changing their way, they are rusted in an old pattern, even if it saves on energy, water and so on they cannot digest always another method. In fact they will come up with dozens of excuses to satisfy themselves, but they don't realize that they could do a lot of harm to the population of the municipality and besides that waste taxpayer money as well, not to talk about the red eyes of the paying customers.

As naturists we should live and be as natural as possible and avoid chemicals whenever we can. If any club or private party wants more information about this new system called "CHLORINSITY" please write to me and I will see to it that you get full information about this breakthrough in our time.

The South Australian Health MInister, Mrs Jennifer Adamson, has turned down an offer from Australian Democrat MP Mr Robin Millhouse to visit Maslin Beach, Adelaide's only nude beach. She said it was bad enough being stared at fully clothed let alone naked in the company of the Democrat.
