Dear Friends,

Some sad news this month - our Life Member Jack Knowles is no longer with us, and we extend our sympathy to all those who were his friends in days gone by.

We are moving now into our winter programme, with lots of activities to keep you in touch and in circulation:

SAUNAS: Every Sunday 5 - 9 p.m.

Clive Green Health Centre, 14 Federal Street, $3 single, $5 double, children under 15, free.

l04 Fanshaw Street, $4 single, $7 double, no children.

LOST PROPERTY: A number of towels and other items have been left at the Fanshaw Street sauna, and I would very much appreciate these being claimed.

SOCIALS: Several members have asked for Free Beach Socials to be held at the Fanshaw sauna. These will be "Do-it-yourself" socials, bring your own supper (wet and dry), and also your own entertainment. Many of us have talents we could share, and we could have some really good fun evenings with someone to get things going.

Dates are 2 May and 6 June, and for these nights only, you may bring your children. Cost will be the same as usual (we have to clear our power charges), single $4, double $7, children $2. Venue: 104 Fanshaw Street, 5 - 9.30 p.m. Dancing, sauna, cold plunge pool, hot tubs, TV, free supper.

SWIMARAMA: 6.30 - 8.30 p.m.

HOLIDAY SPOT: Pep and Pat Erickson send us this delightful account of their summer holiday:

'Thinking about a wonderful restful holiday away from it all? Well, over Christmas we visited the winterless north and took a look at Bill Main's Beach Retreat at Bland Bay. It is truly a back country road, a bit pot-holey and dusty, but take it carefully, it is so enjoyable and well worth the effort to run down the hill and see the beautiful sea views around the isthmus.

Bill has about five acres right on the beach, lots of fresh water, but you will need to take a 'Portable Peter' because all the mod. cons, have not yet intruded into this quiet part of New Zealand.

You can walk down twenty yards to a beach which is sheltered, or across the road to an ocean beach for those who like a few waves. During the Christmas rush (and believe me, this little piece of land is well populated at this time) you can't dash down to the water in 'the altogether', but take a half-mile walk, and you can find quite a few other enthusiasts sunning themselves happily in the knowledge that this is an accepted beach for nudists.

If you are into fishing, snorkelling or diving there are masses of rocky coves to explore. The. Lands and Survey Block (which also has camping facilities) have some bush walks that go to the end of the isthmus. Boaties too will find a haven to, explore.

According to Bill, a butcher and grocer call on a pretty regular basis, and orders are shipped in as required. I think that milk is also on the list of deliveries, but better check with Bill. Bill is a pretty good sort of guy and will answer any queries from bona fide members... Oh yes, there is a small rental for camp.

Good holidaying!

With these tempting thoughts for next summer, I leave you to your winter dreams.

           Adrianne
