FREE BEACH GROUP

P.O. Box 41-171 St.Lukes Auckland 3

November, 1976

Dear Friends, old and new -

Let's have the bad news first : subs are due now! Many have, of course, paid their subs for 1976/77 - thank you to those people. But those of you who are suffering a little prickly heat in the general area of the conscience have the remedy in your own cheque book.

CAR STICKERS : A sticker has been designed and produced for use as identification and advertising. I think you will all agree that this has been needed for some time, and will be invaluable at the beaches, around town, and when travelling. Use it on your beach umbrellas, cars, bags, sports gear - anything and anywhere!

The sticker measures 5" x 3" and features our own Fred Bare in an easy-to-see bright yellow. There is a series of captions which can be left on or trimmed off to suit your own individual taste and requirements. They are made of almost-indestructible vinyl and we are assured they will stand up to all the usual wear and tear to which this type of device is subjected. They will cost 50c each, including postage and you may place orders with --

Those of you who have requested, and not received, the type of sticker previously used will receive the new stickers instead, at no extra cost.

SOCIAL : It has been decided to hold our pre-Christmas Social on 11 December, starting at 7.30 p.m. Admission will once again be $1.00 for adults and good children free - gals a plate, please and guys
B.Y.O.G. Glasses and soft drinks will be available free of charge.

The venue will again be the Community Room at the Normal Intermediate School and there is a map at the end of this letter to assist those who are not too familiar with the area. John McCuan has agreed to play for us, but to give him a couple of breaks we would like to borrow a reasonable sort of portable record player. If you can help with this, could you kindly phone Lois 450-037.

We would like to see as many people as possible in fancy dress; how about really stretching your ingenuity? There will be prizes!

Don't worry about the fact that there is an outing planned for the next, day - we will finish at a reasonable hour, as children will need to go to bed not too late.

BOATING : Boating enthusiasts will be glad to know that two new members have vessels and want company.

Diderik van Hoogenhuyze, Ph. 540-946, has a 53 foot keeler and would like a crew, preferably over 30 years of age - not necessarily trained, as he will train people who are keen and able. And, I might add, if the zephyrs we have had lately continue you should have a ball!

Robert Dyatt, Ph. 557-563, has a 30-ft motor sailer and enjoys company on his trips around the gulf - but no children under about fifteen, please.

I feel sure there are many pleasant days in store for old- and new- salts, through the generosity of these two.

GENERAL : We are fortunate in having available the friendly services of Judy O'Connor who is a trained masseuse. At a time to suit yourself she will administer invigorating, and at the same time relaxing, massage in her own home at Westmere. For a really on-top-of-the-world feeling give Judy a ring at 768-908. The cost is a reasonable $5, and Judy donates $1 of this to the Group funds.

Don't forget we will be glad to have from you any little items of interest which you would care to send for inclusion in newsletters. It is a good way of keeping people in touch with each other during the dreary, unending, yucky winter months. For instance, some members have travelled and have probably seen, or know something about, free beaches in other countries - I think we would all enjoy news of this kind. (Threat : Alternatively, I win churn out knitting patterns or recipes or instructions for 'breeding hairnets in captivity' - they will all have mistakes in them, of course.)

1ZB has been doing a good job of cancellations - let's make the best of a bad situation and call it "free advertising".

If you have a beef or a suggestion or two let the Committee know -

Our best wishes to all members,

Yours sincerely,
